I remember having similar thoughts about the movie From Dusk Till Dawn. It was great the first time I saw it, but the second time around was kind of disappointing.

for those who played it,Take a look at these two videos. there are a lot of things in the game that one wouldnt notice normally.
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
and
that was actually pretty surprising. i usually watch game theory's videos just for a laugh,as almost all of them are stupid but funny. this one though is pretty compelling. it does seem clear that there is a future game with a horror-based story(although not necessarily a survival horror. could be a "Modern point and click" game,ala telltale's games). however,i am not certain that is the reason monika became sentient. otherwise,why didnt the other 3 girls become sentient too?the only other girl to become sentient,sayori,only became sentient when she became club president,which means it had something to do with being the "president of the club". why that is the case i dont know though.
also,the idea of yuri controlling every one else seems weird based on the game. if that was the case,we would have been shown some hints of that hidden personality,instead of having her personality be the exact opposite.
there is also one talk about the book that the video doesnt mention. one of monika's rants is this:
"Hey, you know that book you were reading with Yuri? Portrait of...whatever it was called...it's funny, because I'm pretty sure that book--"
"Ah...actually, I don't think I should be talking about this. Ahaha, sorry! Just forget I said anything.""
Pretty certain she was about to say"is a future game"or something lol. surprised he didnt mention it.

Eh, Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi did it better. Too bad that will never get translated. This is also free on Steam and probably other places. Thanks for an alternate though for those that want it.

Even though this may be on Steam, I'm glad to find it here. Since, for whatever reason, the Linux version still hasn't made it up on Steam yet, despite months of waiting and there literally being no reason not to since basically every Ren'Py game is Linux native. The Windows install of the game on Steam even comes with the Linux files from what I hear, lol.

Maybe for those who get off on horror/snuff content. XD Anyhow, I'm glad it is up here, as it made it easier for me to grab a copy, since I think they still haven't added it on Steam for Linux yet and I didn't want to bother with grabbing it through Wine or finding it somewhere else.

I'm so disappointed that there's so little Rule 34 of this game. People wouldn't shut up about the game when it came out. My YouTube sub box was filled with videos about it, and even unrelated videos were filled with comments and memes about it. But no one wanted to draw copious amounts of smut about it?! I don't feel like this game is as popular as it was when it first came out. At least not with the artistically talented lewd crowd. So I doubt there's gonna be a sudden influx of Rule 34 for it sadly. Really hope I'm wrong though.
