Yeeep, I'm with you man,
I was much happier with domina and its monthly updates before dek implemented that whole combat stuff and skills. Im not gonna lie, I was impressed with it and I really liked how it created a much more immersing experience but not at the cost of these insane delays (if thats even really the reason of it) which apparently it isn't since at first dek was blaming the artists for the delays... I'd rather have the old style domina with regular updates and then once the game was finished dek could come up with that combat system for those who like it that much
That doesn't make any sense... Sure there is pornhub for porn but there are also hundreds of games with massive and complexes gameplays and plots out there if thats what you're looking for. I'm sure that most if not all people who come here are looking to bust a nut rather than some complex gameplay and if thats what you want there is steam with a shit ton of games? Or maybe try a game store
Domina was great from the start and had monthly updates, sometimes even in less than a month. Would you still rather wait 6 plus months just to have an slightly more complex gameplay and combat??? I cant speak for everyone but I'd never make that choice.. if i wanna fap I'd play domina and get it done, and then jump into a real combat/plot game if i actually wanna play something. A perfect example of game that got ruined because of devs megalomania was under the witch... it was beautiful, simple and very fapable lol now it gets a 10min update after a year cause the dev decided trying to make some massive open world rpg porn game out of it.. might be done in a 100 years or so.. sadly

Great from the start? If memory serves correctly, this game was in a much rougher state then it is now. There were a lot more quality of life changes as time went on. I'd say that it's still rough but a lot less it's a huge step up from what it originally was. And I don't think a porn game should get a pass for being a porn game as there are many games on this site that focus solely on it and still turn out to be shit. People who are like "Porn games should do nothing more" end up being the "people who want to see a genre stagnate as if it was pokemon" right here. Maybe porn games shouldn't try to rival a triple A dev game but by no means should they be allowed to stagnate either.
At the end of the day this is a GAME after all and should focus on the GAMEPLAY to a certain extent. like what others have said. If you are really that bugged about the GAME in porn GAME then Pornhub, Spankbang, and Porn based Visual Novels exist.
In ToT's case the devs leaves breadcrumbs that make you want to speculate to a degree It's no [Insert Lore Heavy Franchise Here], but when the devs leave the fans dry on content, then what else do you want them to do? With that said it's honestly shortsided to see a porngame as just fap material. While fapping is often the main or huge focus, it isn't the end all be all because at the end of the day, why make a porn game if you're going to focus on the porn at the expense of the game part. At that point you might as well make a hentai manga/comic or go to pornhub and get your rocks off with no strings attached rather than waste everyone's time. Even then, I don't believe that dev-worship is often the main problem here. Look at Boda since you want to bring them up. The fans have at this point finally got them on a semblance of a track since there are no side projects in the horrizon since it's not amusing anyone any longer and Bo just wants to wrap up ToT so he can do what he wants without an angry mob at his throat. If anything, the spectacle creep is moreso on them rather than the playerbase "jerking them off"

As I just said, im not saying that gameplay isn't important on PORN GAMES, but at the cost of 6+ months delay would you still choose that over monthly updates?
And yes I still think domina was great from the start and if you dont that's a matter of personal opinion.. why not stick to the plan and finish the game before adding more stuff and getting overwhelmed with it? These games dont ever need to end, devs could always keep improving it after its done.. just focus on one thing at a time.. bunch of games get ruined/abandoned because devs end up biting more than they can chew.

I would actually fully agree with this comment if you wouldn't have called porn games "fap material" - I agree 6 month delays are certainly not worth the wait solely for some extra gameplay elements in an RPGM game (I don't support this game on patreon in great part because the delays are long), but that said certain delays are worth it in my books, especially if they improve writing quality/art. Porn games can be far more than "just porn" (look at "Trials in Tainted space", "Mistresses of the forest", "Seeds of Chaos", "Monster Girl Quest" or even "Rise of the White Flower" which, admittedly, isn't as unapologetically femdom-focused as the other titles I listed, but all of these porn games have intricate narratives which are objectively better than what you find in some triple A RPGs...) , and a lot of us actually like an immersive choice-driven game experience with erotic undertones/elements even in triple A games! (see all the Skyrim and Oblivion erotic mods on Lovers Lab or all the multiple/infinite romance mods for various Mass Effect games for example...)
As someone who loves lore-heavy roleplaying experiences and read upwards of 15 books for my favourite tabletop RPG (World of Darkness), in PC games I had 2 of my best roleplays playing Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines as an ex-Dominatrix (you get to choose your human background before you became a vampire at the beginning of that game, and that is an option for female Ventrue MCs) and Skyrim as a domineering former Aldmeri noblewoman who fled the Summerset Isles when the Thalmor took power and then joined the Imperial legion to support an Imperial invasion and a return of the old aristocracy in the Aldmeri Dominion, and both of these roleplays, as you probably suspect, were modded and contained a few erotic elements.
What I'm trying to say is that I was with you on your critique of dekarous and his delays (I even found hillarious you trashing him for talking like a corporate exec lol
) , but if you think porn games shouldn't take their plot seriously and should just be "fap materials" that don't offer their audiences other forms of entertainment (like an intricate plot/rich lore, as well as gameplay that players like), you're probably in the minority on this website...Nuance seems to have been murdered a long time ago on this thread, (may she rest in peace) and I'll probably regret having jumped straight into this shitstorm of an argument, but that's just my 2 cents on the issue... That was well said friend, I respect your point of view and I agree with most of what you said. I was never against the plot, i think a good plot is essential otherwise its the same as watching porn. What bugs me is when the devs get carried away too much and get lost/frustrated in a game that turned out to be much more complex than they can handle so what was at first a hobbie for them or a fun way to make some extra bucks becomes a burden and with that they might start procrastinating and stuff. I think the combat idea was great but maybe it got a bit too complex for the kind of game, and probably took a lot of deks focus that could be going towards the plot, story, dominas and the art... and instead hes having to think about weapons, skills, cooldowns, etc etc, damage, defense and much more...
So dont get me wrong, I love a good plot, big reasom why I love domina.. what I think it was unnecessary at least for now was the complex combat. Nothing wrong with a few skills and weapons but I think dek went way too far with it and probably ended up getting frustrated but I could be wrong.
Also I understand that sometimes delays are normal and totally fine if they come with good results.. but thats not the case here anymore... the upsetting part is the lies, over and over again we've been hearing that it should only take another week or so... and that's been dragging for months. People have been paying for nothing, so I wonder if Dek is gonna make the new update (if it ever comes out) avaliable for the supporters of the previous months (like Salia Coel did when she's delayed on her previous updates)

With regards to your first point, I completely agree - it's a shame when a dev gets sidetracked a lot by gameplay/combat improvements to the detriment of advancing the plot/making new art, and given that I've heard earlier in this thread that version 8.0 might require a full restart and won't support previous saves anymore, it's also a major inconvenience. (especially as it's not the first time when the old saves were rendered obsolete for this game...) Fighting droves of undead just to level up also added plenty of extra grind to the way the game works, and I truly hope dek will not end up abandoning the project cause it got out of hand or handing out short (in terms of gameplay time/story) delayed updates for years until he completes it!
That said, there could be many reasons he focused on revamping the gameplay and combat mechanics the way he did - it could be he had writer's block and decided to focus on other ways to improve the game (as the class system, all the weapons, skills and perks do make it a more polished and better experience gameplaywise) for example, and if that is the case he may return to more frequent plot-driven updates eventually! I know as of late he's mostly just promised updates and not delvered, but here's to hoping at least! Obviously you could also be right and he might've gotten bogged down in too many perks, skills, systems and buffs he has to think about for the future dominas as opposed to the plot or the various post-enslavement scenes for the existing Dominas, but by this point I'm mostly hoping that's not the case or that he managed to sort most things out during this long break.
Domina is a good game and I echo your sentiment that it would be terrible for this to go the way of "Under the Witch" and over-complicate itself to desruction, (which is possible) but I still have hope in dek eventually picking himself up and finishing this game! (maybe it's a misguided hope because I'm not his supporter/haven't checked his patreon too often, but he should see people are mad about his delays and perhaps that'll have a positive effect)
It's also nice to hear Salia Coel did that - I haven't checked Femdom University in a while so I should probably take a look at the latest updates! (really hoping for new Skullgirls content) As I said, thanks a lot for the nuanced answer and let's hope your worst predictions won't come to pass!

You say you don't know what he announces on patreon, but the issue is there is nothing new. A vacation would not even be a valid reason since saying the update will come out next week and then not giving that update way over a week later because of a vacation (requires more than a week of planning) is just rude. If it was just like how someone else said and it is just that the playtest version was released in private, then there would be no issues with the time he said and it should come out today. The problem is we have yet to get any sort of reason for the delays (not including art) and even were told a long time ago that the update was finished besides putting in the art (something that would take no time at all if it was put in as he got the pieces, or around an hour if all at once).
I am still looking forward to the update, but I just hope that Dek really understands how important communication can be and not stateing the real reason for why the update took this long will cause people to lose trust in him.
