Well.....hello again. Forgive my frustration at the moment as I'm coming off a day long battle with Daz. Got some news, good and bad. I mean, the bad isn't all that bad, just incredibly frustrating. But we'll get to all that.

The Good
Things are still moving along well. Work on Cassie's sex scenes progresses (sort of, we'll get to that in the bad), and we've started live streams on Lupita's next chapter.

Conversion of the old material is proceeding albeit slower than I would like. As I'm plowing through a lot of the old code I'm seeing a lot of...experimentation...on my part and that of my predecessors. Seems like we tried out a few different formats for the sex scenes and associated variables before coming up with the "sex menu" system that I'm planning to run with going forward.

That lack of consistency in how things were being handled is slowing the conversion down a bit because I'm having to invent some work arounds to make those scenes work. Eventually when time permits, I'll slowly start replacing those early scenes with updated versions that make use of Roger's skin tones and the Red/Blue track shifts I'll be using going forward.

That said, I'm not the type of developer that likes reworking old material. I've done those scenes twice already and the idea of doing them a third time bores me. Thus reworking those old chapters will be a very low priority task that gets worked in here and there while the render queue is full of new content.

But that said, production of new content is going along very well! The streaming process is pretty well worked out and I'm very happy with the amount of work we do in a live stream.

I'm very excited about 2021 being the year of regular updates and tight release schedules. I've been more than ready for this game to take off and now that my only responsibilities are writing stories and making art, I think we can get a lot done.
Assuming Daz gets it's head out of it's ass that is...

The Bad (or The Aggravating)
So yesterday turned into a complete waste of time. I pretty much lost the whole day fighting with Daz and Nvidia.

As you know, I recently installed a pair of RTX2070's into our primary computer. Everything was working well as far as I knew and we were chugging along. They yesterday I noticed that Daz kept dropping back to the CPU for rendering. After installing the RTX's I never really bothered to check the status but for some reason yesterday I did.

Anyway, Daz won't use the RTX's for whatever reason and I make the mistake of trying to figure out why. BEST OF LUCK RIGHT?! Cause with Daz you get what you pay for. So for Zero dollars I can pretty much expect less than minimal support and thread after thread of independent Daz users frustratingly comparing notes to figure out how to solve these problems.

First test, update Daz. I know, stupid right? But my rational was that in the newest versions of Daz you can turn off the processor and use the cards by default (previous versions let you prioritize the cards but would still fall back to the processor if need be). Well I did that and then nothing would render except the CPU. Cards would throw and error and Daz would crash. (A few lucky times it caused a KernalException which crashed the whole computer).

Ok, next step, update the Nvidia drivers. Three different drivers later (I tried all the ones the threads recommended for use with Daz), still nothing. Still defaulting to the CPU but this time I get a nice message saying that the reason it defaulted is because Daz could not allocated 6MB of data to the 7.5GB available on the card...well ok. Fuck.

No one could apparently figure that one out either. So I roll back Daz to a previous version. That threw a whole new set of errors and exceptions. Finally, at about 9 o'clock last night I threw in the towel and gave up.

I reinstalled the latest version of Daz, updated my Nvidia drivers to the most current configuration, and said fuck it. I'll just render with the processor until such time as Daz and Nvidia may or may not get their shit together.

The silver lining is that the i7-8700k still does a pretty damned good job with the renders. The above image only took about 5 minutes to render using the processor alone. So our operation is not crippled by any means.

It's just frustrating to be sitting on $1200 of idle hardware and it burns me to think of how fast those cards could crank out this same image. Oh well.

I refuse to lose another day fucking with it so for now, processor it is!

The Ugly
Gollum's scrotum...? I don't know. I don't really have anything to put under the Ugly header but it felt obligatory to have it.

Anyway, that's all for now! We'll keep chugging away at renders and get some new stuff to play.

I should have Cassie's 9th scene ready for playtesting tomorrow and hopefully scene 10 sometime next week. Should have some Lupita material to playtest then too! And some more converted scenes.

We've got a strong wind behind us, so let's keep this baby moving towards that horizon!

Thank you for your support and encouragement!

Cheers!
He! You could've easily switched The Ugly for The Weird and detailed most of DAZ's and Nvidia's fuckupery under the latter. Why they made using the dedicated card one set up ones rig with into an ordeal way more complicated than fooling around with autoexec.bat and config.sys (to load every driver possible into the upper and high memory areas so Wing Commander would've access to nearly the full 640k of system RAM) is way beyond me.

Can't wait for 2021! And Lupita. Keep it up!

I literally couldn't find any discussions about any such problem that he describes. There are discussions about problems with very new types of cards that are not yet supported, but not about 2070 which is like two years old. Maybe he should call nearest computer tech support service :ROFLMAO:

Hmm, I wonder if this is happening to me as well, I noticed renders taking 15-20m to finish instead of my regular 5-10m on my 3080. I'll have to look at it today and see what's going on.

edit: I solved my particular issue, Octane render (which I just recently installed) apparently doesn't support the RTX 30 series yet, and disables GPU rendering. So with that uninstalled, my renders are now back to 3-5minutes for a full render..

So I played the alternate paths and I have to say again how impressive this game is. The renders are of course great, but the different dialogue and content in the paths you can take are very convincing. I'm primarily interested in Cassie and her friends, and their storylines have been fantastic so far - the slow corruption especially. It's a great option to be able to turn down the LI's we might not be interested in. Also love that you can customize the nicknames that each character uses! Haven't seen that before, and surprised more devs don't do that. Keep up the good work RomanHume!

(Cassie) Daddy?
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
I may be among the weirdest pervs on the planet, but I'm utterly mesmerized by Cassie's stare… for me it's the most prominent feature of the render even surpassing Jane's behind. I am sorry, my wonderful free spirited Jane, but it seems my totem finally revealed herself to me.

As always, nice work Atherin!

Hey man, you've done a good job especially with no specific blueprint or guidance. Some people just like to nitpick.

And again I appreciate how original and refreshing this game is. I've been enjoying it quite a bit.
Thanks! I look forward to bringing you more soon!

Yeah unfortunately I never used/tried/installed Octane. So my issue is buried somewhere else. :cautious:

Really appreciate the feedback mate! My goal was to make the game I wanted to play. No forced kinks. No forced LI's, and a lot of dialogue choices that actually influence the story without you ever having to worry about that "GAME OVER" screen. I never want players to feel punished for their choices in the game. Just rewarded in different ways.

Hopefully I'll have quite a bit more to bring you very soon! Cheers!

Is the love path of every girl interesting? Or is just talking?
I hope that in time it will be interesting. Based on player feedback there is a sense that the red path is receiving a lot more attention than the blue, so as I'm writing new scenes I'm trying to stay aware of this and balance them out a bit more. The blue path will still feature copious amounts of sex, but built on a deeper relationship with the characters in most cases.

The balance of paths is such an interesting conversation.

Usually the paths are defined by concept that the developer choose for those. In this case seems like a more grounded, long-term relationship by being a decent guy (Blue option) or by living the moment, being more bold and rash with words, leading to more casual and open relantionships (Red option). That's only my perception, and i may be wrong.

The problem usually happens when by trying to do something that is truly meaningful, the players are "punished" to have less spicy scenarios, wholesome scenes, or just the lewd progression is delayed for the sake of build-up in comparison of the other path, when you have the same talented writer doing the spicy thing that you wanted in other paths.
At the end of the game, is common if the game has for example 2 planned routes, if one is some kind of "romantic", "good-guy" or just even "respectful", that usually will have 25% (In most cases lest) of the lewd content just because in the same time-line, the action started way too late just because it needs build-up and then the game just ended because the other path just done everything
(And most cases, the game ends at the same point of the timeline, no matter which path).

At this point anyone might think that i want the opposite, but that's not it. I love the long term and interesting stories that unfold by a talented writer. I think myself a fan of stories that are driven by characters instead of scenarios, so that's why the maningful and deep relationship (Not always have to be romantic) attracts me the most and usually I end up realizing that it wasn't the focus at all.

One way to reward players that want that kind of content, is just by being loyal to the characters and let them grow with the story, a LI migh be shy and submissive if a path push her in a direction; in other path she can grow in a different way and lead to scenarios where she is more proactive because she is comfier and more confident. The limit is the talent of the writer, and by just doing that you can have the same amount of content, being as hot as the other path and even mantaining the traits of that characters that led you to that point.

I think this game does this very well, you can recognize a character no matter which path you choose, and have a huge divergence of how they interact with the MC (That's why i'm torn with this year and this game), but i, as well, recognize that if you played one side, will end with hotter / more scenes.

I'm glad to read that the dev is aware and open minded with the feedback, love the eventual streams and see that his direction align so much with my tastes. So hoping for the best and eager for the 2.0

Don't get me wrong, i love the blue path and i'am not asking for more sex right now, the dialogs between every character are excellent, and the way you built every character to be singular is superb, i just wanted to know if down the path we'll see sex scenes or the MC is just a "father/friend" for most of them.
