This looks and sounds good, but I'm sure there are some of us that hope this doesn't take away time and development from the more conventional storytelling in the gameSo just a couple of notes since this is already spreading like wild fire. The goal here was not to introduce a mini-game for the sake of adding a mini-game. I'm making serious effort to make the poker game dovetail smoothly with the story. This includes things like randomized cross talk between the characters, as well as random cross talk between the characters and the MC. There will also be a few 'cut scenes' as well as during certain parts of the mini-game like when characters are losing clothes or sharing information that actually drives the main story forward.
I do not intend to have story, story story -STOP- Mini game - RESUME- story, story story...
The goal is to have story + poker game unfolding simultaneously with the characters saying and doing more than just showing their cards at the end of the round. Especially since people chatter a lot around a casual game of poker.
If all goes well the poker game will flow seamlessly with the story and have story built into it as well.
However, it does play like a virtual poker game and the outcome is not predetermined. It's simple five card draw with no ante or betting system (Jane came up with her own set of rules for everyone to play by!). And of course for those who don't like mini-games or just want to get to the good stuff, I'll continue to include option buttons allowing you to cheat on a hand or even skip the whole thing entirely.
And don't worry, the only time things are 'covered' is at the end of the round when all the cards are shown. The rest of the time I made sure to keep the gui well out of the way of all the good stuff.
