If devs wouldn´t put something as simple as changelogs/status updates behind a paywall then maybe we would know what is going on and not bitch about it. If they kept these posts, roadmaps and visions for the future public maybe more people would be willing to become their patreon because they actually know where it is heading instead of blindly buying into it.
It's all public in this thread, mate.

We've been doing you one better than that. We've been posting the information right here in this forum. As for what's behind a paywall, Ignatz shares that here on the weekly. So other than giving you a personal phone call each week I don't know what else we can do to help keep you informed.

What's stopping us? Absolutely nothing.

Why wouldn't we do it? That's requires a little more explanation.
First, how would we market it? How would we let people know that support of our soda reviews actually goes towards supporting our project. Burying the connection in the game might work, but then you are relying on people to actually pick up that bread crumb which is a hell of a gamble.

Second, if Patreon ever detected the connection between the two, that's it, we're done. We get completely shut out. We've suffered a Patreon black out in the past and they are ruthless to deal with. Then of course we could create a new patreon, but then we'd need a new a bank account, etc. To pass off as a new creator. That's a lot of work, too much work.

Third, having to maintain a 'front' for the operation is a whole job in and of itself. If we had 1,000 patrons and only three soda reviews, then someone is going to smell the fish. Patreon isn't stupid (again, we've learned that first hand). So that means we'd have to dedicate someone to pumping out the occasional soda review, and all the associated what not that goes along with it. We only have about 15 hours a week we can dedicate to this project. I wouldn't want to take away even two of those hours to maintain a 'front'.

I think at the end of the day, it's just too much work to build a house of cards to hide our project. And our Patreon growth is already very slow. I would hate to slow it down any further by making it difficult for people to find us.

BUT! Provided this game pays for itself in the end, we have other games already in the pipeline. Ideas and themes we can spin off of this initial story. So when we finally complete this game, we'll move on to the next project and release a "Director's Cut" of this game that includes all of the things that would have been a violation of our Patreon T & C's. Because at that point all Patreon funding will be going towards the new project.

Cheers mate!
Thanks for a prompt answer. I'd understand most of it, sans the concern of marketing, it's not like you can market this game on patreon, steam or public TV. These games are found, not marketed. And it's not like you'd need to burry it. "Thank you for playing Dr Amana Version 1.04. If you'd like to support me and my passions consider supporting me and my hobbies on patreon" - enter ingame link

As for soda reviews just tie in a blog to patreon and write whatever.

But that is of course up to you decide. One thing I don't understand is, your game doesn't seem to have incest, I just played version 09. It's just a regular story with fucking, so why did you start over again?

And also, gotta say, I love the dialogue system and ability to be a right bastard rather than sniveling nice guy. Please never get rid of that. It just feels awesome and right! All the unneeded boring grinds are out and game is at it's prime. Will we always get fucked over with the boss or is there hope of wining? Cheers

At the end of the day, I am truly sorry that so many people are disappointed with our most recent release. That said, if you were surprised by the lack of content or the restarting of the story, then you are simply late to the conversation. Our patrons and our fans right here on F95Zone were 100% informed of what was coming and were not surprised at all.

We are very active in our player community and our players have a very real impact on how this game is developed. We make it a point to respond to every comment on this forum. With the exception of those posts that lack any kind of productive criticism and are simply bitching, we value the input of our players whether or not they are paying patrons.

We are ALWAYS happy to answer questions about our project or engage in general discussion. We have no secrets here. As players ourselves we hate it when a Dev does everything behind a wall of secrecy. From day one we have made it a point to be very vocal about our project and will continue to do so.

If you played our game and liked it, we'd love to hear it. If you played our game and disliked, please let us know what you disliked and what we can do to make it better. If you just want to piss and moan, feel free to post that too, just don't expect a response.

Salute mates!

We refer to marketing in terms of advertising and gaining public awareness. But I understand your use of the term 'marketing' as well and completely agree with that. Though I did read somewhere that Steam was opening its doors to more adult content. We might check that out later once we have a finished product.

"Thank you for playing Dr Amana Version 1.04. If you'd like to support me and my passions consider supporting me and my hobbies on patreon" - enter ingame link
And I mean this with the utmost respect, but those bastards at Patreon are fucking perceptive. I think we could get away with this idea for awhile, but the first time they come across our game or someone reports the connection, we'd be done for. Dealing with Patreon is like dealing with the mob, they're fucking ruthless.

Since you asked nicely and didn't come at me with an axe, I'd be happy to respond. The short version of the story was that when we started this project in January, we had 0% Daz experience, 100% Python Experience, and 0% Renpy Experience. So we started in on the alpha as our sandbox to learn the tools we'd need to make a good product. We told everyone even back then that the alpha was going to undergo a complete rewrite when we felt we had reached a high level of proficiency with the tools of the trade.

Then our computer burned out and we weren't able to process renders for several months. During that downtime as we rebuilt our system, we watched every Daz Tutorial, bought books on lighting and digital modelling, and broke renpy down and studied all of the parts of the system. By the time our computer was repaired, we decided there was little more we could learn and we threw ourselves into beta.

We figured it was better to restart now while the story was still gestating rather than do the reset further down the road. The beta version 1.0.0 not only includes higher quality renders, but also incorporates a lot of the player feed back we received over the months of working on the alpha. Major changes were made to the way we structure our code as well and these changes were going to improve efficiency going forward.[/QUOTE]

Cheers
No worries about the dialogue system. We love games like KotR, Mass Effect and Alpha Protocol where you have a sort of light side / dark side dialogue choice. And we like having the option of being a bastard to some people and nice to others. We want our players to feel like they have an impact on Roger's personality.

One of the driving forces behind Nanami's storyline will be getting rid of the boss and making power moves. It's a story of who Roger becomes in the process.

Despite so many baseless critiques following the last release, @RomanHume still proceeds to try to reply to as many as possible in the classiest manner. You can tell he really cares about what people think of the game and that there's been a ton of work put into the new story and renders.

Roman, don't listen to the people just jumping in from "latest" here to complain about something they can read all about a few pages back. For everyone that's actually been following your updates on reworking the game, they should keep up the great conversation and constructive criticism. I personally enjoy the new dialogue system and can't wait to see how it will look with the rest of the story being readded. I have high hopes for this since everything is set up to have a lot quicker, better updates.

I think the new game plays better and looks better with a more involved story - keep up the good work!

^^^^^ LMAO this is hilarious. That was a dumb and silly post that shouldn't have been written!
Okay, HumperJumper stop me from complaining also explain why I'm entitled because I complained.

I love the game but I'm very glad I've never sent the devs any money all these restarts...just not worth it

im not complaining, im giving my full opinión of reworking a game that was good enough and that i see no point of a rework, even more when they are a minor dev with not so much patreons behind them, (this will hurt more than help them, people dont like devs that abandon games or do rework when the story is starting to be interesting, and thats my point too, take @novel as an example, he wants to rework his game but he respect that maybe now is not a good time to start again when he is so advanced in the story, for me thats a dev that i respect and have my full support ;))

M'kay, this post is going to be separated into three parts. First will be a critique of the beginning of the game, second will be a spoiler describing on what your actions mean - code wise - and how to get the sex scene, and the third will be a spoiler critiquing the sex scene.

First off, I really like what you have done with the menu. The change in fonts and colour personalizes the game. Thumbs up here! What I am disappointed by, or maybe it's just confusion, is how your conversation with the doctor implies that you have lost the battle with cun'...er...Arthur. The way I read it, it gives away too much information too early. Hmm...upon rereading the conversation, I guess it doesn't mean that Roger is ousted and nothing good is to follow concerning work. It might be confusion on my part.

When the Beta gets a little further along, I think I'll do a downloadable walkthrough like I have here:

Okay that's it. While I am sadden that this is a step or two backwards, this isn't a surprise and hopefully the new rig will get us caught up to where we were in the Alpha sooner than later. Cheers!

to the dev:
now your getting serious about your game u fucked it all up.
latest release is complete waste of time for anyone who plays it.
the version before was really nice. renders not perfect but the story telling was quite good.
u should have sticked to what you did then.

On the other hand, I played it and I didn't feel like my time was wasted. Thus, your comment is incorrect, if by one. And I believe I am not going very far out on a limb to say there are more people who liked it as I did.

Your criticisms would be more relevant if you did not use such sweeping generalities.

First, let me just say thank you for your support and encouragement.

Fortunately the negative feedback of others has never swayed us. We operate under the credo "Time will vindicate us." Sure we could waste our time and breath rebutting every accusation of milking and pandering out there, but instead, we'll keep our eye on the finish line and when the game is done, all the naysayers will be proven wrong.

And if for some reason we don't finish the game, well then fuck us we're shit bags and we deserve to choke on all the slander that was leveled on us.

In truth, we have so many more game ideas that we don't want to spend eternity developing this one. We want to get it done and move on. But we also want what we do to be of the highest possible quality, and if achieving that means spending a little extra time on this one, then so be it.

Cheers mate!

We will have to disagree with this 100% on pretty much every angle. We are not happy with 'good enough', we strive for excellence. We know it will never be perfect, but there were clear places for improvement and we felt we needed to reach those places.

The story itself was still in the womb. We had 7 introductions and a handful of follow up scenes. There was very little ground lost. It made more sense to us to do the rework now and then move towards the finish, than to keep pumping out the alpha, only to go back and do a rework of the entire game.

As far as patrons, well fortunately our patrons are some of the best. Now we may not have a lot of patrons, but the ones we do have are solid aces! They stuck with us through a rough and disappointing downtime and are very vocal about the game's development. We have a very clear and open channel of communication with our supporters and during our whole black out we only lost four, maybe five patrons. Also, since this new release, our count has gone up. Now we aren't blowing the doors off of Patreon any time soon, but we are extremely grateful for the support we do have and we like to think they know how much we appreciate them.

We're sorry that you're unhappy with the produce. Feel free to check us out in a year. You might be surprised.

Terribly sorry you feel that way. We're also sorry that you feel the story telling has degraded. My advice would be to not play any more releases because this is how the story is going to sound going forward. Sorry mate.

Cheers.

Random bitching comment. Meaning im not happy with the restart.
To be fair we are ok with players expressing their unhappiness and disappointment. We just don't respond to people calling us milking dick monkeys.

And we do regret we felt the need to restart and push into beta so soon. We just felt this would be less of a system shock than doing it six months down the line. And we dreaded the thought of remaking the entire game when the alpha was finished. Especially since we felt we had learned everything we could to make the best game we could.

So for that, we do apologize, but we hope you'll keep coming back and checking out our project. We don't anticipate it will take us long to surpass where we previously left the story.
