I'm too lazy to link the comment, but to summarize, the first versions were alpha builds. At the point they decided they were sure how they wanted the story to run (largely unchanged) and which code mechanics they wanted to employ, they said "OK, now we're ready." From that point, they're planning to finish the project without any major changes. That's generally the way alphas work.

This is the gist of it. When we started the game we had zero experience with Daz or Renpy. After awhile, we got solid with the tools of the trade and decided to regenerate the beginning into a more cohesive story with higher quality visuals. If you are interested in playing the alpha, go to our homepage in my sig and click on [downloads] at the top. You can find the last alpha there. We like to think the contrast in quality is sharp.

Cheers mate and thanks for playing!

As usual, when the voices speak to me, I spread the word. No, not those voices, silly pirates, I mean the ones from people other than me...the people that do stuff like create interesting games and stuff. Here is a current communication from the team:

Weekly Update 2018-11-03
Alright, now that we're almost caught up, I can spare a minute to drop some news.
Progress

The next update is moving along very nicely. We've wrapped up production on the next Jane update, we're about 65% of the way there. This update will feature Jane in one of two possible scenes. Which scene you experience will depend on your choices in the previous dialogue by the pool.

So while this next update technically includes two new Jane scenes, only one will be experienced in a single play through. Beyond Nanami's initial chapter, this nicely showcase how your decisions can affect not only your relationship with another character, but how their personality is impacted by your choices.

We have another week of vacation coming up, so that's another straight 40 hours to wrap up this update and get the distribution out.

Poll Results

The Lupita outfit poll certainly stirred up more passion than we had intended. There was a lot of intense discussion on our page and on discord. In the end, thirty votes were cast and the traditional maid outfit won by a single vote. For those fans of the remaining two, worry not. Lupita will still have an opportunity to sport them in her off time. However, while she's working in Roger's home, her professionalism shall win the day.

Discord

Since we'll be working on the game every day this week, you will be able to find us on Discord between the hours of 10:00am to 3:00pm EST, Monday thru Friday. Please feel free to hit us up with your questions, give us a little feedback, or just drop in an say hi. We look forward to it.

The link can be found .

Promotions

Don't forget we still have our promotions running. We've spoken to our friends at Gemmex Promotions and have decided to retain the current promotion for another month. The decision was made mostly on the fact that Jane is our feature model this month and it might do well to offer those drawn in by her wiles another chance to acquire some of her goods. If you need additional details, please refer .

We also want to thank those of you who have taken us up on our referral offers. We've confirmed delivery of the goods and hope you enjoy the treat. Details on our referral program are .

What's Next

We have a busy week ahead of us. We have to finish rendering and building out the second Jane scene for the next update. This alternate scene will also feature some sexy animations, but we have plenty of time this week to drill in on it and get it done. We're looking forward to a very productive five days.

We'll also have a couple of polls going live this week. The first will be to establish whose story we will focus on in the month of December. The second poll will involve some more costume choices for upcoming character scenes. Look forward to those in the next couple of days.

Now that we have some breathing room, Fecalmancer is going to be doing some updates to our homepage. We've largely neglected this area while devoting more of our time to game production. His updates will largely feature some additional artwork as well as developer insight and talk. Behind the scenes stuff and what-not. We'll be sure to let you know when those updates go live.

In case you haven't been following us on Discord, here are some of the rapid light tests we've been doing for Jane's next scene. Understanding of course that these are not scenes in the game, just lighting tests.

A suggestion on lighting. This is something I see many devs do, when they want to have a dark scene. They make it so dark that the viewer can't see what's going on.

We don't need to see a dark room with barely-visible people. Make it darker than usual, but still visible. You don't need to make it a dark night, just give the impression that it's dark.

Films do this kind of thing all the time. Too dark and you can't see what's going on. A good example of doing it right is the scene in Die Hard when Bruce Willis is crawling around in the ventilation. He lights his lighter, and it's suddenly way brighter than it should be. But not so bright that immersion is ruined. And before that, swinging in the elevator shaft, it's brighter than it should be so we can see what's going on, but again not so bright that it ruins immersion.

The first 2 images do this.
The first one I can't see her face. Lighten it up a bit, so it's still dark, but we can see her.
The second one has harsh lighting like we'd see in real life, but it's not enjoyable to view. Make the darks towards the back a little less dark.

We always appreciate feedback. I'd just like to touch on a few points.
I don't disagree with anything you're saying. When we were looking for ways to improve our renders, we studied several resources on lighting. One of the best was written by John Jackman whose done lighting for a number of television shows like Law and Order. The fact that you think the lighting in image number 2 looks like lighting you'd see in real life, is a testament to how well we took away the lessons in Jackman's book. The lighting in number two actually uses a three point set up and the lamp itself doesn't light the model at all.

The dark contrast between her and the rest of the room was a deliberate effect to create a more dramatic look. The remainder of the room is lit with a low-level blue light and we then increased the ISO to allow the details to bleed through the dark. The same is true for the first image. The intent was to silhouette Jane's entrance for dramatic effect but her darkened face exists only for a single frame.

And you're absolutely right about films utilizing light sources brighter than what actually is called for in the scene. If you reference Emily's bathtub scene, that is another good example of what you're talking about. The tea light candles floating in and around the tub were not only insufficient to light the scene, but came from all the wrong angles to reveal the details we wanted to viewers to see (it was a sex scene and we wanted to see the sex). So while the candles exist for purely visual effect, the lighting is provided by a four point set up with the temperature tuned to match the tempurature of a candle flame. We again jacked the ISO to further illuminate the scene.

The final effect is a nice seamless look that tricks the eye into thinking the candles are lighting the whole scene. Our biggest take away from Mr. Jackman was that "real" lighting is insufficient for two dimensional mediums. All of the texture and shape in a scene comes from the lighting and we look at it very seriously.

The two dark scenes above consist primarily of dialogue with little physical interaction, so we felt it was safe to go with a more dramatic look. But the second scene in the home office has much more physical contact and that is why we went with a more vibrant lighting arrangement.

I will make a promise right now that any scenes that consist primarily of nudity or sexual behavior, will be sufficiently lit to ensure all the lovely little details are visible. For scenes that contain primarily dialogue, we may occasionally take the liberty of lighting it in a more purposeful way to convey a specific tone or mood.

We hope in the end you'll be satisfied with the final look when you play the game.

Salute mate!

I can't ask this question without raising alarm or getting hopes up. But with a desire to do neither, I'm curious where the forum stands on transgender sex scenes.

I suspect this is HIGHLY individual, can't imagine "the forum" as a whole has an opinion :/ personally I'm all for it, sounds awesome! If you're considering it for the game I reckomend you make it optional and be prepared for a whole lot of blow back unfortunatly.. I do hope I'm wrong about potential blow back but from what I've seen in other threads around here I'd prepare for it..
Cheers

Oh of course, I say "forum" in a very general sense. I expect dozens of differing opinions on the subject. We've actually come up with what we think is a pretty solid method of controlling content in our game. We've started to include options to turn fetishes on and off so that you can control what you do and don't see.

We have our main story that plays out for everyone, but then if you have specific fetishes turned on or off, you'll see a different "variant" of a scene that drives the story forward.

So for example, let's say there's a scene in a strip club where Roger starts getting fresh with one of the dancers. The dialogue wouldn't change and the story gets driven forward like normal, but if you have say, "Trans" turned on, then that stripper may be a Trans. If you have trans turned off, she'll be a normal female. We're not looking to over complicate the game, but to create some variety that allows players to tweak it in ways they'll find more enjoyable.

And none of these fetish options really impact the main characters we already know. They would just alter a few of the minor characters that we have planned to pass through the story. At this point, it doesn't take us much longer to render a 15 scene variant of an existing scene, so there's not real addition to development time involved.

The more we interact with the community, the more we learn about what all fetishes are out there, and we think some of them would be a fun challenge to write.

It does sound wonderful, will be keeping my fingers crossed ^^ havn't played through since sept update but will be getting back in as soon as you get passed "the old content", I know you're working hard and the content is redone and upgraded, you're doing good work but want the story to progress a bit further before I dive in again. Best of luck

@UncleVT since you good sir have uploader status, and I have no idea what it entails to do so, can I convince you to update the OP with the current public release of the game?

I'm jumping the gun by about 40 minutes but I have the time to do updates, so best to get it done now.

The trans stripper is something that doesn't work at all for me. But, given that it's not there unless it's turned on, I'll never see it, so it doesn't bother me.

And it wouldn't change the story at all, so you're missing out on relevant plot or story.

We wouldn't want to penalize anyone for not being into a given fetish, but just offer some flavor for our supporters who are.

Cheers!

Is it possible to do a stripper with both a vagina and a penis? AKA Futanari?

Was waiting for this question ^^ have to say I love futa as much as the next man (well ok, probably alot more..) but in the correct setting, as in fantasy setting.. in a realistic game I'd much prefer trans.. otherwise you might as well add god, santa, the easterbunny and the rest of the fantasy cast :) but that's a different genre in my opinion
