people are pissed and are calling him a scam artist straight up. I wonder how long they will stay up before they get deleted...
Patreon will not take action against alleged scams. Caveat emptor.
They will take action against people who knowingly distribute infected software, against illegal content** and against false claims*, but unfortunately, Gumdrop doesn't fall into any of these categories.
[*] Gumdrop can legitimately claim that "DFX" is subject to freedom of artistic expression and that people are free to evaluate whether it meets their criteria of worthy content before signing up since he offers it for free.
Moreover, he has the perfect excuse since he provided "pinup packs" for years, which, regardless of what they contain, is proof of work and nobody can legitimately claim that Gumdrop provided nothing for their money.
Finally, there are creators on Patreon who literally give no perks to their patrons, all the content is available for free, and Patreon is just a way for people to support the creator without expecting anything in return.
And we turn full circle, because that is literally the idea upon which Patreon was built. It was supposed to be similar to the ancient institution of patronage where a rich patron would retain creators, provide for their needs and expect nothing in return. Creators could, but weren't forced to express their gratitude, which makes it different from commissioning artists to create or perform work exactly as ordered by the sponsor.
Gumdrop was reported to Patreon as a scammer multiple times. He was never suspended or banned over these reports.
[**] He was suspended (twice) for questionable content when Patreon instituted rules against incest and non-consensual sex (among other things) which Dual Family violated. IIRC, the first suspension was to remove all references to incest. It forced a huge rewrite, and extended beyond the 1st, so he lost all income for that month (that was back when he actually was delivering content regularly). The second time it happened, it was shorter and prompted an update from 0.98 to 0.99. It was presumably over rape content, since he was allowed to stay and didn't face disciplinary action since. He was actually reported over rape content based on version 0.98 here. It resulted in no action against Gumdrop, which is why I presume his last version (0.99) is clean.
