I don't know about Patreon honestly.
You obviously don't, otherwise it would help with your understanding of the issue.
With that in mind, here's some information:
Patreon is one of the largest creator community businesses. Yes there are others, however none of them are a significant competition to Patreon. Unfortunately, when it comes to certain content, they are also rather restrictive.
Because of this, many creators no longer use Patreon for some or all of their works. Sadly this greatly limits their funding potential for what may very well be a passion project.
Yes, people make things because they love doing it all the time. However if your main, or a significant, source of income is derived from doing that, you still need to have some noteworthy means of drawing in funds.
For smaller creators a monthly subscription service works well as an income model. They don't usually have the reserve funds, or even a corporate budget, that would allow them to go months or years without being paid. Definitely not to the extent that a AAA studio does.
So there's the problem. With the restrictions that Patreon has on what content they will allow on their site, it heavily skews what kind of novel, game, drawings, or other forms of art are allowed to be hosted and paid for there.
Let's take a look at a different example to give what you've suggested a clearer context.
Instead of being a game developer, let's say you were a weaver. You absolutely love making tapestries and rugs. Making a sizable wall hanging will take you about four months, working six hours a day, and once you're all done you take that to a store and they'll sell it for you.
What would happen if that store said you were not allowed to use red, black, purple, violet, or cyan in any of your tapestries anymore; otherwise they won't sell them. Even if they have people saying they want something with those colors, and you've spent months making them, it doesn't matter to the store.
As the creator, you still love weaving, but now your main source of income is threatened. So you have to either comply with the restrictions, and hope that you'll still have clientele that want to buy your wares. Or, you need to find somewhere else that will likely be less popular to sell what you make. It's a rather tough decision, considering you still want to eat, and you need supplies to make your creations.
TLDR - Patreon is the problem. They are overly restrictive, and have a large market share for the type of content they host, so they also have a fair amount of control.
Being negative about a creator or developer having to make changes so they can make a living doesn't help anyone.
If you don't like it, that's your prerogative. However, if you are truly "caring about others", as you so claim, that should include the developer - and you shouldn't be actively trying to be a negative influence on their livelihood.
Live and let live, like what you like, and as long as it isn't hurting anyone else let others do what they like, without your interference.
