You really should start it sooner rather than later, because there's already tons of content and every update adds lots more. It'd be a huge shame to miss out on it because you left it so long that it becomes intimidating

Take the usual steps. Reboot. Update video driver, etc. More than likely the video driver, but who knows.
If you're running a potato PC, you may be out of luck. My laptop barely runs these games. Luckily, my desktop is better.

It's not a potato as far as renpy is concerned and my drivers were a clean install just yesterday after a reinstall of windows. I don't have a problem with anything else, just this game is stuck. The GPU I'm using now is dated but way more than enough for these things.

Then yea, I would try redownloading the game. Try a different site, in case one is corrupted. Delete the old folder before extracting again.

By "clean install" I just meant unpack a download wherever you get it from into a new folder and run it without adding anything and see if it works.

So, that was fantastic. Are there any other games with this overall level of quality? I mean in terms of writing, visuals and presentation.
I loaded this up for a quick nut, but ended up holding my attention more than God of War: Ragnarok (and that's a good ass game).

No jokes, its one of best AVNs here, but Ragnarok is on another level is not comparable.

Their previous game is good. Visuals aren't nearly as good, but that's part of it being HS1(but good for HS1), otherwise it's similar lvls of good. Then there is Pale Carnations and Artemis. Both have excellent visuals and good writing too. (very diff in tones tho)

Then you must play God of War 1-3. There are QTE sex scenes. Kratos ram them so hard that even the surroundings get shaken up. Not only that, you also get rewarded red orbs for having sex instead of having to pay gold or other in-game currencies like in most games. I wonder why they aren't on F95 yet.

Last week of December for the highest tier Patrons seems to be likely (which means a tail end of December or early January release for this site depending on how fast it gets leaked)...though it could slip to first week of January if the speculation that Caribdis takes a break for the holidays becomes legit (though personally I still think that's unlikely given his workaholic tendencies...could be wrong tho but eh).

I personally think the best VNs are the top rated japanese VNs you can find on VNDB - the japanese VN industry has been around longer than western VNs there are many that have far better writing. What western VNs do better is visuals - you will not find a japanese VN with thousands of renders.
In terms of adult games, from a story telling and scope perspective I think the last sovereign is the best western adult game by far however I do not think it qualifies as a VN. I also think putting porn in it was a mistake. It plays more like an actual jrpg and the porn is out of place.
If you want western VNs I think some of the other top rated VNs on this website are quite good - I would recommend starting with Pale carnations however the setting is very different. If you want a similar harem setting, simply add the harem tag -> sort by weighted rating and pick the high rated ones. Most of them are really good.
That said as far as harem based western VNs go, eternum is my favorite. I have many issues with it (unintuitive choice system etc) however I really enjoy the drama free wholesome atmosphere, the story and the likeable characters. However many top games on this website come pretty close.

Back then, sure. Nowadays? Kinda hard to find JP eroge in this day and age that's on par with the likes of F/SN, Fullmetal Daemon Muramasa, or Saya no Uta in terms of writing quality. More often than not JP Eroges are basically Nukige now (see the stuff translated and published by the likes of Kagura or Mangoparty), with the successors to the eroges of yesteryear going the non-hentai mainstream route (i.e. "Steins;Gate" by 5pb/Nitroplus, "The House in Fata Morgana" by NOVECT/Novectacle, "Witch on the Holy Night" by Type-Moon, the "Danganronpa" and "AI" series by Spike Chunsoft).
Nah, I argue that it's one of the few games where the porn being integrated to the plot actually makes sense (from the first few hours that I've played, anyway...currently waiting for it to be finished so I can play it in one go). It's rare to find those, especially since most games that tend to mix porn and plot/gameplay end up with a title where both aspects don't mesh well (i.e. "Subverse") or focus too much on the porn aspect that the plot/gameplay suffers in the process...at least, in my opinion anyway (i.e. "Summertime Saga," "Fantasy Valley," "Peasant's Quest," "Roundscape: Adorevia"). Personally, I'm on the camp that prefer gameplay/plot > porn, with the porn being there as a means to enhance the plot or add immersion to the title, and not because it HAS to be there (i.e. "Cobra Mission," "The Witcher 3*," "Memoirs of a Battle Brothel," "MIST").
*yes, I know it's not - strictly speaking - a porn game, but it's the template of what I want an Adult RPG to be: a good adventure with a decent plot and a reasonable enough number of screwable girls that feel like actual characters with interesting stories to tell and not just walking cum dumpsters with nothing going for them except their looks and scenes that you can fap to
I disagree with your sentiments overall, but you do have a solid point here.
For me, it's enjoyable because 1) Caribdis really pushes the pacing along well, and 2) Kid's TV show/anime feel. I REALLY wish Eternum didn't have sexual content in the first place, as it would be one of those awesome fun rides about friendship that you'd want to watch with your kids.
Different genres inherently. Like comparing western RPGs with JRPGs. You like what you like.
