I'll try based on my limited knowledge.

At a point the head developer, Helius, made the decision to take the game from a single player with the gallery mode that you see in version 0.34 and change it to a multiplayer game. The reason given for this was because they had to release the game on steam, and steam has been very consistent with denying and pulling games that feature content like bestiality, rape, and lolicon which this game has all three. By moving it to multiplayer, they argued if an issue came up with steam, they could pull the content in question to cool things down. Naturally, a lot of the community supporting them was wary of this both because it was unlikely this would work to satisfy steam, and because of the privacy and longevity issues of having so much of the game's content based around third party servers. The spicy content would also not be made available in the gallery mode, soley the online mode.

Despite the real concerns that steam would force them to start pulling content like the loli character, they continued to sell costume packs and use her and other spicy content in advertising on patreon. Now almost a year later, she isn't in the beta with lots of other content that will likely be pulled by steam telling them "it could be an issue down the road." The developers never give clear answers on this, keeping everything vague.

At some point, they also decided to add Easy Anti Cheat to prevent greifing on the multiplayer.

Since then there have been several changes made to the game to intoduce a grinding game play loop to unlock scenes, characters, monsters, cosmetics, etc in the multiplayer. You have to grind for likes from other players, unlock blueprints, research points, etc. There is also an internal store to the game you purchase with likes that has cool downs to prevent users from just grinding likes and buying everything. There are also daily challenges to complete to unlock content. The entire thing has been remade towards a microtransaction and gacha grind fest angering lots of the backers. They have also talked about introducing a fee to be paid for accessing the multiplayer, then season passes 4 times a year to get new characters and other content, that is also available via grinding in the game.

Its turned into a microtransaction game with paywalls to encourage people to buy the game passes instead of grinding. While you cannnot purchase in game currency (yet), it is clearly being designed for that.

Then add on poor communication from developers, snide attitudes towards backer's concerns, constant thread locking, banning, and disimmsing on the steam forums and their discord. And the constant technical glitches and poor performance because the game has not been properly optimized.

All in all, they had something great, then changed its direction for bullshit reasons, and now are changing the entire game to a gacha grind multiplayer game to make as much money as possible from horny players.

Edit: I'm sure I'm missing stuff but this is what I remember mostly.
Thanks for the explaination. Unfortunately its just the classic of being "consumed" by the greed. They are clearly already earning a lot of money on their Patreon, but now they are just trying to milk it for as much money as possible. Ive heard of developers delaying release on purpose to grab the last few months of patreon money, and people straight up not delivering a playable game at all. But pulling a 180 like this is almost one of a kind, at least from my experience. How many people is on their team? I doubt a lot of people would like to see their project get fucked like this. But with how they are treating their community, maybe they are just firing the people who dont agree, or this was simply the plan all along, and all the developers were in on it from the start.

Honestly, I don't know why they are all going along with it other than money. There are quite a few people working on it, developers from game studios in China. Helius loves to brag that they have developers from the makers of Genshin impact, etc. They also have snagged a couple animators that made blender porn on Patreon before. IDK what those animators think about what is going on, maybe they just want a steady paycheck.

Can anyone give me a rundown of whats happened? I played V.0.34 from this forum a while back and didnt realize it was a very old version. What happened, why does it seem like every is against it now. Anyone can either link me to another comment or give me a quick tldr?
TLDR is still going to be a bit long since there's a lot here, but bear with me.

<= 0.34: Helius is producing fun porn, everyone is more or less happy as progress is fairly consistent and pricing seems like it will be fair. Towards the end there's a mention of harem mode, always online multiplayer. People are wary, but open to it as long as Gallery remains. Releases stop as Helius starts to work on Harem mode.

During this period the devs talk about Nutaku, and make fun of it for wanting their game to be a free to play gacha as part of an investment. Claim this offer is denied. Helius brings up a mystery 15 million dollar investment, no mention of who and claims it was turned down after some backlash.

Anyway, the game is now a free to play gacha, but it's not mentioned to backers quite yet.

During this period they also start selling costumes for characters, including Galatea. Will be relevant later. They also decide steam will be the release venue, despite steam censoring many games and them claiming the game won't ever be censored.

A few days before the release of the beta you can still see Developers like Itsamiya making fun of the idea the game would be free to play gacha. A few days later at release, it's revealed that it actually is that, despite them laughing at the idea just recently. Damage control is them saying this was communicated for years, and people are banned if they quote past devs or even mention the gacha in anything but a positive light. The grind and busniess model come out a few days later, and its bad. Not buying anything means it will take close to a year to unlock all animations on launch, assuming you play 1-2 hours a day everyday and don't go for extras like other costumes. And assuming you don't get too many duplicates, which you can get. Business model is also super scummy. Also gallery is dead and single player will have its own storefront and contain no adult content.

Also the DRM is terrible. More patreon backers are banned by EAC than pirates before EAC is cracked. The back end for the servers is terrible and unstable. The game took a huge hit graphically and the few new animations added have sync issues, holes, and generally don't work. UniversalConquistador spoofs the back end in less than a month. The game development is likely paused again to address these DRM issues and spaghetti code servers. Also the "multiplayer" elements are clearly shown to be bull, as there's basically minimal interaction between players and it's clear there was no plan for any actual interaction or something to justify the "multiplayer" moniker as it's essentially a bunch of people playing the single player scene viewer in a room together.
Even now, at 0.47 the game doesn't run for most people if there's more than a couple people in your server.

It also turns out there was (obviously) censorship for steam, and 0.34 had more animations than the first beta since the more non con ones are removed. The horse and Galatea are both delayed. With Galatea it's unlikely she'll get in as Helius has explicitly mentioned her as both a loli and a child. This is bad since many people donated for her and also pre-purchased her costumes. Galatea fans are a core part of his remaining supporters so now we're in a situation where Helius has to put a child character into his game on steam or risk angering a huge chunk of his remaining supporters and potentially deal with a lot of refunds.

This is super sparse and I'd recommend reading back a least several pages, but should give you a general idea.

It is not just steam patreon does have ani-loli policy as well. They said they got contacted by patreon regarding upcoming loli character. Does any of the top patreon projects have loli?

There is no chance they will put her in (in her original design), it was either scam or wishful thinking from the start whichever you want to believe.
But the loli removal will actually hurt them unlike the gacha part, there appears to be a ton of pissed of loli wanters yikes.

iirc one of the older top games of Patreon "Monster Girl Island" got shut down because a character had loli body type, and also had some incest scenes with her sister. And the solo developer simply said fuck off, and decided to not run anymore crowdfunding as he has already made a lot of money and is currently using discord as his platform.

Thanks for the reply, this is more than enough for me to know that I dont wanna support the game at its current state.

I only read part of your first paragraph and quit. They implemented multiplayer because Covid-19 shut down their Colorado motion capture studio and a Japanese company offered to do they work for them in exchange for a multiplayer implementation. It had nothing to do with Steam. Dig through the Patreon posts and you'll find that.
If it is true then it's one of the most stupid excuse they ever said. How the F you change your whole game direction just because you're forced to by some random Japanese motion capture studio??? That's insane and illogical. Motion capture is hard work and expensive yes, but not at the point that it's too expensive that the studio can dictate what their client should do in exchange of their service. It's not that the games required hours of hours of delicate motion capture performance done by hundreds of actors. If the mocap studio offers their service but with that ridiculous exchange, well just go to other mocap services, they're hundreds of them, and I'm sure many will agree to work anonymously because the nature of the games, but again the choice is on them, and PH got the money to leverage offers.

If anything, a drastic change in game direction should be dictated by the studio itself, or the stakeholders, or patreon backers in this case, NOT by a random sub-contractor. Lol wth.

Well, my arguments crumble if the studio doing the mocap is WETA. I'll gladly change even my whole games if Weta want to work on my projects for free LOL.

Yeah most of the remaining regularly chatters on their discord are loli fans and surprise most of the loli fans love the gacha part as well and support it but now that their loli character is threaten they are mad:KEK::KEK::KEK::KEK:

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
That's why tons of posts are entirely removed now from the steam forum as well I suppose, I suppose if you count disagreeing with staff and devs its disrespect

"Unlike the gacha part?"
If they are more pissed about one character rather than the over all stability and direction of the game, then we are all doomed.

Looks like all the flak forced Helius to respond to Lewd Gamer. Still looks like they are going to remove her from the sexual aspects or change her significantly to comply with steam.

Dude he's digging the hole deeper. There's so many screenshots of him calling her a loli and the lore literally mentions shes a stand in for real children. Like does he think no one will read that eventually?

I can understand the amount of bugs present in harem mode but sometimes I fail to see the point of harem mode as the timezone(countries) of different players which they can online is the thing that mess the gameplay a lot(and lets be honest here, majority of ppl dont wanna have someone watching over you while you play through the experiments). It's probably that if they were to make it singleplayer based, this game would die fairly fast. But damn they need to fix these up.
