Is the development of this game really in such a bad place? (honestly asking) i just found its patreon and threw it 30 bucks for the beta, and im digging it so far
The game has been in development for years, with the monthly updates turning into yearly updates if you're lucky. A lot of the disgruntled people are former backers of the project who have watched a promising singleplayer, offline game with an xcom-like main campaign turn into an always-online gacha game with season-passes and ingame currency. You now have to grind for your porn, and I don't mean that in context of a hand motion, or you can shell out for a season pass or ingame currency. Die-hard supporters of this change will laud this as a positive change, as who really wants to get access to the porn they paid for without first sitting down and clicking buttons for ten hours so you can unlock a bathrobe?
The devs' insistence of using steam as their platform has meant that they've now got a company telling them what they can and can't include (and also provides a convenient excuse as to why they're not including things that they promised to their early backers). This is primarily seen in one character, Gaylater or whatever, with various loli simps still holding out hope that she'll be including in the game after the devs announced her... three years ago. Same for the degenerates on the other side of the aisle, the ones who are wondering just where all the new xeno's that were talked about and shown in concept art are.
On that point you will find that the devs love their concept art. At this point they've shown off so many fancy 3D renders and written backstories that you'll be surprised to find out that they still only have the same three characters that were in the game demos years ago. When questioned on missing characters or features that were promised years ago, you'll be met with handwaved excuses at best and an outright ban at worst.
Development hell, long waits on progress, and broken promises aside, the main point of contention from many in this thread is primarily the sense of abandonment of what they originally signed up for. They were told to expect a chocolate icecream cone but instead received dairy-free and soy-based frozen yoghurt. In most cases they had already paid money towards getting the chocolate icecream, and so they end up feeling ripped off and left with an inferior product. Then when they question why they couldn't have what they thought they were getting, the malnourished vegan kids with their soycream sundaes tell them that it was always going to be soycream, the chocolate was never going to be real in the first place which is fine because soycream is better and they should be happy.
Meanwhile, the icecream truck driver is busy jacking off into the frozen yoghurt dispenser thinking about chairman Mao while using the money he took to wipe the glistening sweat from his brow.
Hopefully that clears things up.
