having played things like Harem Hotel, Hero's Harem Guild and Eternum I have to agree. I mean they're shallow as hell in the end, and they're all built around the MC being some godly being when he's really just a total fucking buffoon, but when you're horny as fuck you don't really mind.
I just wish people put more effort into the animation part of VN's because most of them are just shitty default Honey Select 2 animations that aren't even properly synced...
Yes. there is many VN with shitty animations, but there is also a lot of good VN with great animations! they are only a plus for me anyway, personally I like the type of games that use 2 or 3 images/frames that alternate between each other e.g. weekend lolly gagging.
I donno about the Honey Select I only played 2 of them, DAZ on the other hand... almost every game uses DAZ!

oh those alternating frames as placeholders for animations are the bloody worst to me.
You play a whole VN that had an "animated" tag and finally get some smut only for you to find out it's a slideshow and there's only one other scene in the entire game that justifies the "animated" tag...fucking bullshit.
HS1 and 2 are fine by themselves, you can make great shit in them, but the default animations / modded animations barely ever work with characters that aren't bone stock
I've never seen nor played a game with "animated" tag on this site that have alternating frames or what ever it called, in fact it the other way around! I have played a lot of games that doesn't have animated tags yet they do have real animations.
Those alternating frames games do not have the animated tag (see my example in previous reply) and usually it comes as a surprise for me when you expect a stand still images / no animation from a game you just downloaded.
As of why I prefer it over real animations? it is simple:
-beats stand still images
-better than janky poor rendered animations
-easier, faster and cheaper to produce therefor bigger content and more frequent updates for new still in development games
Edit: I hate it when games has no audio (not talking about music) like effects, moaning and such... it just adds so much to the scenes
VN and 3D simulators are so different and does not invalidate each other. It would be great if one day we could have a game/software that would bridge those two, would be for VNs what sexlab was for sex mods in Skyrim. Or like Emotion Creators but actually good and allowing creators to monetize. Because i feel like with VNs using 3D art too much time is lost on reinventing the wheel.

Of course! this would be the ultimate dream! maybe in the future... who knows?
As of now I just wish we have 3D games with the level of story telling and the variety of kinks that VN provides even if it has shitty graphics, unfortunately all you see is just demos and dogshit games with "completed" tag... there is of course few exception here and there albeit with very limited fetishes.

The closest thing we have to a "3D/VN" game with good graphics and customization is VAM it is not really a game and more of an engine. you can download or make what ever you can imagine in it in real time, but the problem is it requires a beefy PC and a huge learning curve... yet it is still limited.
There is a few VN games on this site that use VAM as rendering engine, but we are back at square one.. VNs LOL!!

I tried them, and unfortunately, it's not for me. Most of them use DAZ, and I find them uncanny as hell. I used to like VNs when I was younger, the Rance series and Majikoi were pretty good.
But when it comes to porn games, I prefer them to be in 3D. And this market needs more games, good games.
I don't mind reading textboxes in games, having some aspects of a visual novel in 3d porn games can be good for storytelling, but visual novels alone are not enough for me.
