Here are some examples of good renders in VAM

Those look really nice minus the eyes and eyebrows. However they still lack the wow effect that update shared earlier had.

I don't know about that. I think that you should load your character/model into a scene and game should handle all the lighting. If it takes that much effort to set up things properly and it tanks systems so hard then that will be a problem for the consumer as well.

I would think so as Bledner is a modeling software not an a... simulator?. But then if you learn Blender you can make your own stuff , mod games and do much more then VAM can I'm sure. Now i wonder how does making stuff in unreal fairs in comparison. Making a scene(environment) is probably super easy, the characters are plenty detailed and i suspect you can find ones with needed bits, so the question is how hard is to animate that.

I think that best testimony for VAM capacity and efficiency will be when people will start making their VNs in it.
Oh i missed the first part of your comment.

When you load your character into a scene, you don't need to do anything to the lighting because lights should already be in the scene. Think blender, you put light sources, if your scene has proper light sources then whatever you throw in the scene it will cast shadows, handle soft shadows, reflections etc by itself. The lighting itself doesn't tank the system directly, it's the combination of stuff that's tanking the system. You have multiple characters with hair simulation (which you can adjust the density of the hair), how much lighting bounce setting you have, how many light sources you have, clothing simulation, collisions etc. So whatever you save on is a plus. But like i said scenes usually have proper lighting while looks dont. It all depends on whoever is making it.

I think that's enough of an info dump on another game, if ppl are interested they can check it out. I just tried to clear some of your questions and some misconceptions you might have.

Edit: Here are some more renders from Pin-Up Girl Banner Contest October 2021 they did

Damn, you've almost converted me to your religion. Keeping my distance for now as I know I'm prone to spend endless hours fiddling with sandboxes and customization.

I think Project Helius actualy gained some patreon supporters recently. Which is sad and surprising. It seems that it doesn't matter what they say or do ( or rather not do ), people still believe in this project. Kinda creepy.

I'm still interested in this game but at least I am freeloading so I cant blame myself for supporting this semi scam.

You mean the Helius update that looks like it was ripped from VAM?
I'm yet to see that fidelity in VAM.
(To be clear : I'm not saying that to defend Helius but because I liked what I saw and would gladly see more. Also please don't mistake realism for fidelity)

There are VNs that go for year without update and still retain high patron base. As long as he won't go radio silence and will keep fueling those copium tanks people will keep inhaling.

Its actually quite amazing how we barely got anything more since Fallen doll demo released 5-6 year ago, with monthly promise of what to come in arts and 3D render, none of which is actually shown with in game footage or materialised yet.

And then if you express doubt, they ban you to keep it quiet? Sounds like a scam to me.
Thats how they've been doing it all this time and not just Discord, official channels such as Steam were heavily moderated, deleting or banning any disenting opinions but worry not, in their own words they were being lenient towards criticism.

So February almost over and still no signs of any "Galatea dogging" in the near future? I wonder if they will go silent and let it die to then start the reboot cycle again... maybe someone will "run away with the money" providing an excuse to shut down & restart the scamming routine?

To be honest there is many Early Access Steam games that operate in similar way to what Helius is doing. Maybe there is some unofficial guide " How to be shady game developer " lol. I know game on Steam that is in EA for 8 years now. Everyone who complained got banned, every steam discussion is moderated to the point that people are afraid to say anything negative. Effect ? bunch of acolytes still believing in every lie, white knighting developers like they're gods and game still holds stable playerbase.

Thats just one example but behaviour like that seems to be common trend among indie developers with oberblown projects. Out of my ass example of this shady strategy: Promise AAA quality product, divide realistic ammount of time you need to finish the game with your tiny dev team by 10 ( 20 years = 2 years ), show something exctiting again when people get unpatient, stall, threat some people with bans and pose yourself as victim " making quality games is hard :( why are you so mean to us ? " , promise more, stall again, threat with bans, show sexy screenshots... and continue untill dream is alive.

I remember there was a version of this game at some point before the online harem update BS that was just the game with a sandbox animation viewer, any way to get that version of the game as it seems nothing has changed with the move to the harem version?

There is a slight difference though. Visiting any game in early access' store page on steam you'll get a visual cue which can tell you immediately whether that EA game is worth buying or not thanks to reviews.

If your product is bad you have incentive to improve it with this model.

As an added benefit transparency is enforced since people can see the update history and further determine whether or not a game is worth investing in.

Now the fallen doll devs were smart and caught onto this system, thus the game is not in EA and as you and others state devs have full control over the steam forums. They are doing all they can to keep people in the dark as long as possible so Helius and crew can keep going on holiday without delivering anything of value.

You speak of their abandoned project Fallen Doll. If you ask me..they should've kept the scope small and released the finished version of that before switching over to this game.

Anyway it can be found here:

Nah I'm aware of that I mean a previous version of Lovecraft, I think it would've been like 0.34 where it was just a simple functional offline anim gallery with some customization to it. I don't really feel like bothering with downloading the cracked harem version unless its easier than it sounds

Ah. Searching 0.34 non-VR got me this post. Maybe it'll work for you? The MEGA link still seems to be available.

AFAIK the 0.49 version now comes cracked in the OP but I haven't tried running it myself to see how easy it is. Maybe someone else can comment on the specifics?

Sweet thanks. As for the 0.49 do you know if they added any new actual animations, characters etc or is it just the furnishings for the actual game part of it?

There are supposed to be a load of new animations in 0.49, but they're only accessible through the "online" mode which isn't really online with the crack. I believe it removes any grinding needed to see the animations too but don't quote me on that.
