everyone falls for marketing and hype, gets burned, and repeats without ever learning.

2 of those games don't belong on that list to be fair.

I've seen consistent updates from Wildlife devs, they're pretty transparent too.

Breeders of neph is a fully playable game that is surprisingly still being updated regularly.

It's been almost 10 years since Star Citizen was announced. That's the OG who may have trained Helius in the art of patreon-fu.

Can't speak for any of the others..though you're right about the blind support. Too many don't follow the rule to not sub when horny.

Um, Subverse is still getting updates every 3-4 months, and i dont know if they didnt deliver some of their promises if you are talking about that.I mean,most of these games are still way better than Fallen Doll

Wildlife really doesn't deserve to be on that list, it's probably the best sandbox porn game currently extant. They should just drop any pretense of releasing a story mode or whatever it is they're doing and just plow development time/resources into making as many animations and assets as possible for the sandbox and let people make their own stuff. Same with this game as well to be quite honest.

Lol wildlife has way more content and a sprawling community making these custom scenes and maps already. Its quickly becoming the skyrim of porn games. I mean you can already mod your skyrim for snusnu but it's a hassle.

Yes, it's very easy to wait for a finished game. All you need to do is wait.
When everyone thinks like this, devs can focus on making their game and not actually scamming people. They just need to work full-time on their day job so they can stay alive and pay their rent and eventually release a game that can be pirated by anyone without paying. This way I'm sure devs would be so incentivized to make games.

Patreon might be full of scams like this one, but there are good devs out there. In a sense Patreon is like Netflix, it's just that this Netflix in particular only releases tons of trailers and never the actual shows.

It is almost like a free popularity boost for games. This site is an example of it. Personally, I would've never known so many games if I wasn't able to pirate them in the first place. For example, I've learned about the character in my profile picture while browsing a well known steam piracy website. I pirated the series first, played them all and liked them enough to buy all of them on steam. Same can be said about pretty much all the games I bought from steam.

Anyway, they can(they already do) earn so much from patreon(or steam early access etc) they could make developing games their full time jobs instead of working on them as side-project.

Adult games do not get legitimate investors. They don't receive support from platform holders. They rely on word of mouth for interest and subscription services to justify the time put in. You cannot uproot your entire life to work on a passion project as expensive as making a game.

Yes, this game is a scam. But that's not every title. You can't hold this game's sins against the genre.

CD PROJEKT was actualy first big one who pushed anti-DRM idea with their GOG store - and they still going strong with that. Many years ago they realized that heavy protected games with DRM do not sell more copies just becouse " you have to buy them to play ". People who do not buy games, well they do not buy games. Duh. Price, quality of a game ? doesn't matter. If game doesn't have crack ? they just wait for it even if it takes forever. If it's online game only ? they might go for it, but many popular online games are actualy F2P nowdays.

General rule is that having game in online only mode or under heavy DRM protection doesn't increase sales almost at all.
So I'm certain that Fallen Doll wont generate a lot more money from microtransactions just becouse it's going to be " online locked ". Who can afford it, will buy that stuff regardless of what mode this game would originaly offer. Everyone else will pirate some scuffed version or just play free gallery mode and be done with it.

You dont have to because you have sites like these to get it for free,in my case i will dump 20-30 bucks when the game is near the end of development,no need pledge the game for 5-8 years until its finished,so no,Wildlife is fine because they at least do some work and show it, Fallen Doll on other hand...

First because you don't consider title worth your money doesn't mean it is a scam. I think that Subverse is well worth the money I spent on it. But people have unrealistic expectations they think that you few mil and inexperienced team is gonna result in AAA game.

Second many great games were made thanks to crowd funding, because some abuse it (human fucking nature) doesn't mean it is not worth to support devs this way.

If you think that classic publisher-dev way of developing game is the way to go and you worry about the money lost to scams - think about your successful game and think how much of the profit goes towards making games and how much goes to pockets of owners and investors.

Finally porn games are not only niche but also carry "image" cost so no publishers will want to pick them anyway. The obscure companies that are willing to take them up are no strange to scam themselves as they have no image to upkeep. Where would we be without patreon ? Probably playing crappy browser games.

CD PROJECT pushed the no DRM idea for marketing purposes. It was clear they can't compete with steam so they had to make themselves different in some way. What they said about DRM applies to small titles that can't afford strong protection or old titles that have the medial boom past them (and DRM is paid per year it is active i believe ).
As proof to that they attracted have no major publishers, no blockbuster titles available day1 besides their own. Say what you want about major publishers but they would not waste money on DRM if it wouldn't be profitable.

In most cases when people say that they "can't afford games" they are not in situation that they can't afford entertainment at all, they just need to be picky on what they spend their limited money on.
This is going to be a simplified example : you can either buy a game or a 6pack of beer - how do you spend your evening ? Well most will choose to pirate the game , buy the 6pack and have really nice evening. If they steal the beer there will be consequences ... Now however if they wouldn't be able to pirate they would actually need to chose one.

I agree with this, some of the games named above are clearly not "scams" and crowdfunding isn't inherently bad, however I do think it could do with some regulation.

Patreon's design for example is extraordinarily anti-consumer, it's essentially hand crafted to support scams and they have no incentive to change whilst they're earning their cut risk free. They make individual due diligence impossible, don't do any due diligence themselves, let devs manage their pages so they can remove negative comments/old posts, don't have any enforced requirements regarding roadmaps and product descriptions, there's no review functionality, they fight refunds tooth and nail etc.

Sooner or later there will probably be a massive project that causes this to come to a head and regulators will clamp down on it but it won't be over porn games. It'll probably get worse moving forward too as it becomes easier to put together impressive looking demos in UE5, even for those who lack the ability to follow through.
