Until when will you realize that you understand? Eyebrows will not change the story and make it move forward.
Oh you just wait, there will be option in the game where, if you have selected specific eyebrow type, you'll be able to raise one pointedly to crush opponent's spirit and successfully complete crucial mission. You'll see.:coffee:

An earlier post in this thread suggests that the engine(s) developed by Crushstation is available for others to use. Is this correct? If yes, how can one download it to try to write a story to progress the old v1.6.3?

No they meant the avatar since it is the main thing being updated and refined. He isn't going to license the avatar art.

Implementing sounds into the game would be way harder than hair colors, simply because it's new tech you're adding
Implementing sound into the game would take 1 line of code per sound which would look like .
The fact that this is new tech surely increase difficulty of comprehension, say, from trivial to simple. But then again, to each his own.
Literally,
Step 1 - Acquire audio files.
Step 2 - Load them into the memory with load() in place where you do your init.
Step 3 - write soundName.play() where you need that sound to be played.

Do you really think they need rpg system and sound (you play porn games with sound?!)
The thing is, I would like to play a game. Game is gameplay, choices, structure + story, dialogue, lore. If it's kinetic, is an electronic book with pictures. So yeah, every single game that had structure, rpg systems, sound design, gameplay loop, I quite enjoyed, so I'm going for that. Lab Rats 2 would be a nice example.

Sound wise, I can see that sound design is being rudely disrespected and ignored, and I do think it is a grave mistake. Rightly chosen music track can add emotion to the scene, whether action or drama. Sounds can add immersion. Like, you don't notice it, but the audio is doing it's job quietly in the background. It's all the little things added together that contribute to the sum.

when they cant create single path kinetic story?
I have my own suspicions of Crush's conduct of this project, but I do think he's burned down with writing. I've quite enjoyed beginning of the story and up until side-quests were introduced. Still, assuming he's not taking a piss and farming money, which he might very well be, if you absolutely can't write anything good, take a step back and work on other parts of the game, at least something will be moving forward, instead of stalling.

If he's not good at writing, I do not think it automatically translates being bad at systems/gameplay design. When you're making a game solo, at the end of the day, you have to be a Writer, Programmer, Gameplay Designer, Artist, have Music taste. You kind of have to be your own orchestra. If he's bad at one, I don't think he's necessarily bad at the other.

No one asked him to be equally good in everything

He makes enough to hire a part time professional (or even amateur) writer, like he did with lovely illustrator Victoria to cover his weaknesses. That’s how coauthors are working: one of them good in scene writing, another one is good in plot creating. Together they are golden, but separate they can write only mediocre book

He was suggested multiple times to change something in his work to make it more manageable (he is ex project manager himself, so he should knows the basics), there were even attempts to help him for free, to work together as a team

Crush doesn’t want and didn’t want to change anything

Step 1 - Acquire audio files.
You make it out as if that would take five minutes.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

It's not only about technical aspect of it, but also making sure that the whole soundscape is consistent throughout the game, sourcing the sounds. Do we include character sounds? Is there background music? What about licensing? Sounds have to be normalized. The whole sound library created to cover all potential scenes, in order to have consistency. Software, format and potential troubleshooting. There is so so much that comes with decisions and implementation as this. Also, are you going to do mediocre job as most people do or are we going to be more meticulous as crush seems to be?

Tl;dr: Sure, adding background music for character creation would be trivial. Implementing whole soundscape throughout the game? Oh boy... I see multiple "burnouts" incoming and justifiably so.

right now sound matters least in this game, but also in most games. especially when the game can't get down the basics of story, or renders or whatever else... then sound matters even less because there are more serious things that need focus and improvement. but i'd say even in games with good renders or story, half the time i have the sound off. it doesn't matter. voice dialogue also doesn't matter because half the time i can't be assed to wait for the person doing the voice over to say the whole damn sentence or paragraph. it takes too long and 9/10 times i can read faster or skim faster and i don't need to sit there listening to a voice. when it's an auto generated voice it's actually disturbing my uncanny valley thing, and it sucks too.

bottom line is i don't know why people are talking about sound. get good graphics and story and development time in your game. sound can always come later, like last is what i mean by later, or not at all.
