Maybe it's something Leah's parents said? If so, though, that's just characters being themselves to me. It didn't come off as preachy at all, IMO. It's the difference between someone saying, "No, I can't do that; it's not right" and "Those ____ people, always doing _____ that is so judgmental/disgusting/wicked". I'm not even trying to guess. Whatever it is, it was obviously perceived in a wrong way, out of context or something else totally.

Karina definitely appeals to a certain type of person with a certain "appetite". One the one hand, I want everyone to love her, because that's just what she wants, is love. She's just been too sheltered to go about getting it without seeming immature, and maybe a little tactless.
