I gave the Ren'Py port a quick go. From what I've tried; it runs well and everything seems to be functioning as the original GameMaker version.
As you mentioned it's missing the ability to save. It also lacks audio. What it really needs is a font and dialogue UI change for both adding flair and the fact that there's more text than can be shown. The only choices they have is to either split the dialogue or change the font size.
Looking forward to the new update that they're hoping to release this month! Also can't wait until the game is fully ported to Ren'Py. It'll significantly speed up their production assuming it's the programming side that's currently bottle-necking their efforts.

Supposedly the problem was the engine animations that where the problem... however I'm afraid unless they turn everything to webm's I'm unsure the problem wont rise up in ren'py as it also has a few problems with pure image animations (resource wise that is).

When it eventually makes it to Ren'Py I can definitely contribute to the mods department.
In fact, here's a sampler I just made in a few minutes!
Replace the "home.rpy" found in the "game" folder with the one I have here, and you'll get two new options on the computer and on your bed;

I don't believe there will be any sub futa's in this game, least not Rye of all people. I predict she'll have two routes. The Ren'Py port as of now is simply a test. They've laid the framework and the base to get everything working, now they just need to implement the game's features which include the music, UI, gameplay, etc.
I'm sure right now their main priority is to release the next core version by the end of the month so we'll likely not get the full Ren'Py migration until a while after that.
