A long story short, the dev bit off more than he could chew for the final update and it broke him. I don't say that flippantly, Booty Professor has been upfront that the stress of the update really hurt his mental health. He's paused payments multiple times over the last year, and is now on an indefinite hiatus. No one really knows how much work has been completed because, to me, it sounds like the Prof was inconsistently working on parts of the game of various importance.
I think the safe assumption as this point is that the game is done. If the Prof is able to restart development, great, but I don't think there's a lot of hope for that.
I think another problem is his payment tiers. You can get the game as cheap as $1 which is not sustainable. Money is a good motivator and when you are making below $1000/month, it is inevitable that you are going to burn out. He needs to revamp his whole strategy if he decides to come back. It is a shame because he is a good game developer otherwise.

As a general rule I think there's some truth to your theory, but in this particular case I don't think so. If the Prof had been making $5,000 a month I still don't think this final update would have worked out well. I say that because based on his statements this sounds like a passion project for him, and once that passion was gone so went his motivation. The stress of the update really got to him, so more money/patrons wouldn't necessarily help.

I've come to fully realize and accept Riley as the best girl. At first I was confused on why and how, but upon relfection it has become clear.
On my first playthrough, my blood was boiling. Mia's cheating was so obvious and in your face it was ridiculous, and it was made worse by her blatant betrayal of a mc who, (for a porn game), wasn't that bad of a dude. Mia actually loved the mc, and had literally came out and said how the mc and his kindness had taken her out of a dark place in her life directly caused by a overactive sex life with a biggus dickus douchebag. So when she then proceeds to cheat on the mc in his face with another biggus dickus douche, it just makes everything worse. She gaslighted and lied through her teeth so often, by the end of my first playthrough, I literally could not care one bit about her.
Then came my Riley focused playthrough. At first, I had ignored Riley. I thought Mia looked better, and it eas clear and stated she was a certified hoe. But after going through that route, I came to realize something. Both Riley and Mia were hoes, but only one of them was honest about it. Only one of them never did stuff in front of the mc which they knew would hurt him. Only one of them actively wanted the mc to do better, and supported him. Hell, the only thing Riley ever lied about was knowing if Mia and Biggus Dickus were hooking up, and even then she only did that because she wanted to get with the mc. Compared to Mia, she was a damn saint in my book
They may both be hoes, but a honest hoe is always better then a lying one.

In erotic games honest hoes are amazing. What I dislike in pure ntr games are the lying bitches that always search for excuses (=Mia), but Riley knows what she likes and doesn't, ahem, betray (well, almost, she still kinda did). Her sadistic touch and her body type are also a plus for me.

He got burn out and I'm 100% sure he is shut down the last update was feb almost 3 months with no activity...on this point you can tell that this game will become abandoned soon or later. Shame he can't complete this game and we don't see some final. Bad move to rework all the art work without end it first the game...In my opinion it would be smart to complete the game first and then rework the arts...also he miss the 1 year anniversary of this game....
Don't play it that's the true netorare composition to feel pleasure of that mc suffering or to put on mc shoes and be a good cuck masochist puppy.
If you play netorare and you don't feel anything it will translate in:
1. the game is weak or is not good enough to feel that drama.
2. you have other fetish in that case you are in wrong area my friend.
3. netori and netorare is complete different game.
4. female protagonist only and netorare will never ever will work...that is just cheating and nothing else.
5. the usually games that is not focus on netorare it will not become good game if you looking for that genre...because most of the case the dev need to focus double way to do the ntr and the non-ntr routes and ofc that would be double work that translate in incomplete project of the most of the time...most of devs will give up and move forward.

aawwh man i completely forgot about this gem due to getting a new PC a while back but i didnt know the DEV was going through some shit ! Hopefully he gets better to wrap up the game or just gets better in general. Health problems fucking suck.

Yo janitors I know you earn 0$ dollars per hour but you should still do your job and add the abandoned tag.
The game enables to pursue Riley, and there are several ways to end up in a netorase scenario so I'm perfectly satisfied with the game, I just won't pursue Mia, because she's garbage.
The game is good, with hot sex scenes, so I'll play what I want and I don't really care about the true netorare composition. I don't really seek the mc's suffering and the drama but it's not spoiling my experience either, I don't mind. To me Girlfriend Tapes doesn't seem to be just one of those very oppressive and hopeless pure ntr games. The tone is kinda fun sometimes. And more importantly, the game is good regardless.

There can def be female protag only ntr games, and there have been successful ones. I personally don't enjoy them most of the time, (I don't enjoy female protags in general), but as long as there is someone being cucked, it falls under ntr. Doesn't have to be the protag, or even a male. NTR games where the mc cucks his gf/the girl who likes him by sleeping with other women are a rare but welcome flavor of game.
Your point about non-ntr routes is also super dependant on the situation. Sure, that might be the case for some games, but not all. There are plenty of ntr games with a plethora of routes, including non-ntr routes. I actually think games with non-ntr routes are better then ones without one, so that double work can translate into an even better project. Also, not all games are like the ones on the forum where the author keeps updating. There are games that release finished, (often jrpg games), and have all sorts of routes. Look at Scars of Summer for example.
Finally, Netori and Netorare are different game types, but not that different. Pure netorare has you playing as the cuck, or a character who witnesses the cuck. Netori particularly has you playing as the one who does the cucking. The lines are often blurred, and it usually comes down to the good ol' rectangle and square difference. All Netori's are Netorare's, but all Netorare's are not Netori's.

This game seemed really good at first, but multiple playthroughs kind of ruined the illusion of choice. Mostly in regards to Mia's actions. It would be nice if there was some sort of balance between pursuing Riley and Mia becoming corrupt. Having Bootylicious' uploads tied to player choice (not being faithful or attending to Mia's sexual needs) would be a good way to address this.

The Dev paused payments in late 2023-02, so we'll place this OnHold and retroactively set its countdown clock back to that timeframe. Per our game posting rules, that means status will necessarily change by end of 2023-08 if the Dev takes no action before then.
I hope someone continues the game, it was pretty damn good
I kind of disagree, I like slutty girls, but honesty is a big thing.
Riley is more honest than Mia, yes, but she knew about all of Mia's crap from the start and never told the MC, hell she helped Mia hide it even.

Riley is slightly better in terms of not actually cheating on anyone, but she actively supports Mia through all of it, promises the MC to keep an eye on her and keeps having fucking threesomes with other guys with Mia.
She is an active participant in Mia's shit.
I would love Riley if she was actually honest, but claiming that she is honest is just a flat out lie.
