I am still not sure it really happened! Like Joshua Tree already said it can be some kind of self-sabotage, she has been always conflicted about their relationship. If you think how much she want Mc begin date Sandra.

I guess they were supposed to get riled up, then. :p

This was there to show how little Haley thinks or cares about it and how much of a gut punch this was for the MC. This is the reason why the MC got so riled up. You have to understand why he is so angry now, otherwise it would make less sense.

The writer isn't scared of the readers to make them angry at him for the sake of the story. That is good in my book. I remember how angry were fans at Joss Whedon every time he killed another important and loved character in one of his TV-series. Some of them still are, totally unable to grasp how important it was for the story.
Right. The MC is supposed to be riled up. That is the natural reaction when someone with whom you are abnormally close discloses something like this.
So are we, as players of the MC, not also supposed to be riled up at 1) the fact that Haley was raped in the first place (just like the MC), 2) they way in which it was disclosed, or 3) the person with whom it happened?

I don't understand why it's such a problem that players are angry with what happened along with the how and why, but it's completely appropriate that the MC is?

I understand that complaining about the direction the story has gone, or the quality of writing is tiring to read, and maybe in certain cases, unfair. But what's wrong with a fairly written, legitimate complaint (rare as it may be) that comes from the same place as the MC's justified anger in game? I doubt that everyone here plays games completely disconnected from the story, simply as a spectator. That's why many games let you name your character and play from a POV perspective. If these games were intended to be viewed from the lens of an outside spectator, maybe I could see why people complaining might be unjustified. But if you get immersed in a story, especially one where the primary love interest is as well-written as Haley, it only makes sense that you would be upset at that revelation, just like the MC.

I agree with most of what you say, but I honestly think Haley is in either a little bit of denial about it, or just simple doesn't see it that way. Yes, the math teacher is a perv, yes it's statutory rape (in the U.S.), but I'm not sure how bothered Haley really is by it. Is that wrong? For me it would be, but I don't know if it is for her. For her it just seems like it was an experience. Once again, not my feeling, but what I think she feels.

And you know so well that you're not supposed to hate the way she tells it? How should she serve this announcement then? With milk and cookies over a romantic dinner? Especially when she does not consider this being a rape at all?
Besides what Joshua Tree said about her possibly sabotaging the thing from the start, how does that make any narrative sense? Unless we're supposed to be angry at Haley for how she tells us, but that doesn't make sense. We're supposed to feel bad for her but it's being undercut by the complete daftness of the scene. Don't forget she then tells MC she didn't want to make him angry while simultaneously doing everything she can do make MC angry.

And sure, she's supposed to be a flawed character, I get that, but there's MUCH better ways of writing one than that scene.
