I might be missing something major in this questions, but free Steam games are a rarity and why would you go on Steam if you don't want to sell?

Depending on your machine and how long you're actually waiting, it's normal. Sometimes it takes 3-4 seconds to switch over.

Why should it? The main draw of these games is the story, the replay value is more limited than that of a, say, Mass Effect trilogy, and the technology isn't that jaw droppingly advanced by now that it would make that huge a difference. I know that some do it but I really do not understand why, unless it is a dev's personal pet project to keep it "up to date". Just doing the rendering probably isn't that much fun, I cannot imagine too many Patreons waiting for this. I may be wrong, and completely wrong at that, but I don't think there is much of a point.
Should be on Patreon. However, this VN was conceived as a story about love between siblings. It wasn't until Patreon and various others went to war against incest that the developers were forced to alter the story and the rest of us to rely on patches to restore the VN to its original storyline.
