Yeah, you don't have to pay your slave anything, but a lot of people do because it's great incentive to keep them working. With a paycheck, they can have future goals. Their paychecks, if any, are usually cents on the hour. Just enough for them to think "Maybe in a couple of years, if I do good enough work, I'll be able to afford something nice."
That could be a good idea if we want to reward lin with something other then sex...Cornball did stop us from buying that cute outfit.

I hate to get political here of all places, but I wonder what Runey's politics are.

Now, I get that this is a game, and at a certain point you get to explain away certain problems with "it's fiction.", but I don't think you quite get to do that with the economics of slavery. Plenty of people believe that slavery is beneficial to the slaveowners, but it's not. Slavery did not benefit a country like the US, in fact, the US had more economic growth after slavery was abolished. Slavery doesn't only mean that slaves have it horribly, it also means that the wealthy, the masters, also have it worse than they would if slaves were free - after all, slaves don't have much money to spend, slaves need guards to ensure that they work, and slaves never get to be managers or entrepreneurs or similar, even if that's where they would be the most beneficial to the society. Even in the modern world, there is an obvious difference between the countries that had slavery in 1750 and those that didn't, when comparing their economies.

Slavery doesn't make anyone wealthy or powerful. The "country X is powerful because they have slaves" line is wrong. Slavery is unnecessary. It makes things worse for everyone, and it doesn't make anyone powerful. What improves economies is liberty, freedom to work whatever job you want, to create whatever business people demand and lead it the way you see best, and freedom to trade freely with whomever you want. If slavery worked, you'd see a lot more of it in the wealthiest places on the planet, and you'd never see it abolished. But it doesn't.

You said it yourself, its fiction. Im not the smartest person to be talking about this. But trying to bring real world facts into a world of fiction is like making a PB&J but the J is petroleum jelly. Yes you can...but its illogical.

tl;dr: People suck, and are short-sighted enough that Runey's presentation of slavery, even disregarding storytelling prerogative, does not personally strike me as unrealistic.

Edit: I mean:
...
I don't want to get too public about my political views, but I am politically active. I lean left and I'm definitely against slavery. HH actually has a few of my political views in there if you look hard enough for them. Kali and her Dad, as well as Lin.

The nation of Syl'anar is a Capitalist Republic, they allow a fully free market with monopolies and slavery, however they're rich enough to afford some social programs, such as socialized health care (only for humans). I try to make it a point to show how a Capitalist Republic has huge flaws but can also have benefits. This isn't my ideal form of government.

The claim that slaves don't help an economy is a very odd one to make. Slaves were used to build the foundations of many nations (I disagree with how it's done) but without slaves you can't exactly jump start a nation. Otherwise you would have treat everyone fairly and that gets in the way of things... (Still would rather everyone be treated equally)

As for the claim that the US economy grew after slaves were freed, that's probably true but a little something called the Industrial Revolution also came at that time. There's no doubt in my mind it's better if no one is a slave, but that's not how history developed. It was profitable to have slaves until it was more profitable to use machines.

That form of slavery is irrelevant in the modern age, modern slavery consists of chinese wage slaves working for scraps to make things cheap for the US. This is also what the Elves in HH do.

And again, while I fully disagree with slavery, it's ignorant to say Slavery doesn't have benefits. An army of warrior slaves makes you powerful, an army of worker slaves makes you wealthy. If you have 1,000 people mining gold for you as you only pay them in bread, do you really think you're not going to become wealthy?

The world of HH explores a time where slavery never stopped and continued into the modern era. This is what modern slavery looks like. People doing labor for scraps and the high class shitting in their golden toilets. In this case, humans.

I make it a point to show how Syl'anar works and that while it works, it's not perfect. It's incredibly stupid to not treat elves equally especially considering the elders of their species are incredibly, incredibly wise. Elves learn slower, but they accumulate more wisdom, they would make great world leaders. But racism persists in this world largely because it makes people like Cornwall powerful and Kali's Dad one of the wealthiest men in the world. And as you know, Kali's Dad himself isn't racist, his wife is half elf, but he supports a racist system that keeps elves enslaved.

Damn I should multi quote more often so i don't spam the thread with 30 individual posts...anyway this whole topic actually brings some new light into the high elf situation. if we exposed the island of elves (as much as i would like to take the queen down a peg) Syl'anar would fight tooth and nail to profit from them. at first I thought it would be a good idea because of treaties made to not start wars with developing nations (as Lin mentioned). but people on the outside know so little about elves that Syl'anar could easily manipulate something to their favor. I'm not sure how Runey is goin to develop the issue down the line but all i know is the MC really needs to be careful about he interacts with the high elves...as well as the powerful people we met. in the future as it could easily backfire (already has in fact). i didn't even think about it like that until now. I'm honestly exited yet terrified to see how this goes.

I think you might want to squeeze in a new scene, very early in the game, with Lin and Ellen going shopping on Lin's day off. I don't recall a single scene that hints at elves getting any kind of money from their owners, and you could toss in some exposition dialogue from Ellen (she handles the hotel's finances, anyway) when questioned by the MC.
Just enough for them to think "Maybe in a couple of years, if I do good enough work, I'll be able to afford something nice.
This sounds depressingly familiar :(
I have alot of catching up to do it seems...i obviously was absent for something.
This kinda exploded, just like MC's dick in presence of anything remotely female.
That could be a good idea if we want to reward lin
Absolutely! "She's worth it!"
with something other then sex
Whaaa?!

Joking aside, would be nice if we could hook her up with some gaming rig so she can try MMORPG-ing with Kali (they don't get too much individual interaction). Though I see Lin much more of a "Stardew Valley" type of a gamer, at least there'd be some incentive to get a scene with both of them involved.

TBH, I'd like to see MC do something genuinely nice and non-sexual with all of the cast. Though considering what site we're on, this sentiment might get me lynched.
Cornball did stop us from buying that cute outfit.
MC did get her that pretty sleeveless red qipao at some later time, though, didn't he? Though, disappointingly, we haven't seen her wear it much, but then again - Lin is around mostly in her "hotel maid" role. While Jin lazes around instead of learning useful skills that don't revolve around sex.

He (Jefferson) was also in insane amounts of debt, so i'm not sure that's true.
Yeah, but that's ignoring the consideration of how much more in debt he could've been without the slaves...

So I made some patch files for the original (not the more compressed ones) 0.10.x PC version of Harem Hotel.

Open and extract the content from the game main folder and overwritte all files if asked.
Used it at your own risk.
  • From 0.10 to 0.10.1
  • From 0.10 to 0.10.2
    , Mega
  • From 0.10.1 to 0.10.2
    , Mega
PS: I certained need a faster PC.:ROFLMAO:
PPS: If someone want to made a programm for me that can compare the two game folder and automatic made a patch folder, I would very much appreciate it.
PPPS: Runey To press every last bits out of an achrive you could switch from zip to 7z archive. I could shrink it from 5'116'723 KB to 5'073'822 KB, more possible but I then I need a faster PC. (my current settings want 11 GB RAM, more insanse settings want over 32 GB)
PPPPS: If someone have a problem with the patch, ping me
PPPPPS: I do this only for "full" release, no alpha, no beta and no pre-release!
PPPPPPS: Just for the fun of it:ROFLMAO:
I dont get it, what is your patch for?

No, that is just for fun. There are almost no requirements for almost anything. No one needs submission for anything.

I tried to add the spoiler quote but i keep fucking it up so...whatever

I mentioned this before (PLEASE CORRRECT ME IF IM WRONG) I think Runey said that the MC is sorta supposed to be in the background while the girls go through their lives. but the mc should not be able to be replaced by a stick either. the event did leave a sour taste in my mouth (some of it is probably just the nature of the whole ordeal) and the MC does seem a bit stick like. maybe there was a reason for that playing out the way it did. maybe it will get changed. I'm going wait and see how the story takes off from this before I judge any further. Runey also said that how we perceive the world and how the characters do are completely different, but I do agree that the MC should of tried something there.

Yep, there is even a song about it...

best info I can find at the moment, lists his peak net worth at $236.8 million, not sure if that is adjusted for inflation, but not bad, either way...
Ha! Bob Rivers. I remember driving in December '93 and hearing "Walkin 'Round In Women's Underwear"; laughed so hard, I almost took out a mailbox! :ROFLMAO:

We barely learn of our own full history, how do you expect us to know others? :ROFLMAO:
Oddly enough, I know european countries better than US states

The base of this conversation revolves around how slavery is handled in harem hotel, so I think it's fine.
In Syl'anar's current era, they use slaves for labor. In the case of Lin, MC barely pays her and she does a ton of work. He's a great master relatively though. But Lin is definitely profitable!
I'm not jumping into this one. I play these games so that I can do "Inappropriate" things that would get me stoned to death in the real world. ;)

Did you extract it into the same folder as 9.2? Use the old exe to start it maybe?
i overwrite everything so old ones out unfortunately and yes i do, unless i made a mistake somewhere but everything looked good to me

i think this was one of the games where i always had to re-download from scratch for some reason it would never update properly :/

Yeah don't do that. Trying to merge or overwrite the previous game version doesn't work well and that goes with most games unless they have a specific patch to do that.
All you need to do is extract the new download into it's own folder and start up the game. The game will find your saves automatically.

I dont get it, what is your patch for?
For updating the 0.10 variants of the game to 0.10.1 or 0.10.2. For details about which version this patch are intended look at my original post.
So e.g. if you have 0.10 of the game instead of downloading the whole 5 GB you could use this patch files and save around 4.5 GB of data you otherwise would have downloaded.

Hey, Runey. I found a typo while messing around with the pc codes. When you input the code to max Autumn, you are told that the code will max out all of Felicity and Emma's stats. I checked and it's just a typo, the code does max Autumn's stats.
