Go to Your Computer, then click the back arrow in the lower left corner of the screen. You should now be in the Residential District, and your game should now be bugged.

Whatever prevents you from using Esc while looking at Your Computer stays with you and locks you out of Esc from then on, even though you can seemingly wander around. Any event or cutscene with a similar Esc lockout will cause the bug if you use the back arrow at the same time.

Sorry, I'm not in the Discord. I'm just playing through blind for the very first time! Great game so far!
That's the thing, none of my saves have that button there. Starting a fresh one didn't work either. There must be an event, or something done in a specific order, that cause this bug.

Well, at least you found a way out of it already.

Are you using a mod or something?

Lain's Walkthrough Mod, which I was told to get for my first playthrough because it has a few expanded scenes + a scene guide. I just double checked with an unmodded version of the game and the back button does not exist without Lain's Walkthrough Mod installed. So that is the culprit.

At least if anyone else reports this issue we know where it comes from, what causes it, and how to solve it.

While I really like Lain's WT mod it's not something I'd recommend to use.
Lain hasn't been active anywhere for over a year now and her mods are maintained by other members.
Using it is risky because it can severely fuck up your save files.

Now I was able to reproduce it. :LUL:
The fact that the WT mod exists and is quite popular completely slipped my mind, that should've been my first question.

Pinging JGNeon in case he wants to look into it.

Well, then you have broken your game, and will run into more issues later. Changing their levels almost always breaks your save.
It was the very next friendship level. All other characters had their stories completed (except Autumn), Lin was the only one that lagged behind that far purely because of the bug that wouldn't cause the scene to trigger. I could still view it again in the replay though.
