On coloration of text.
I guess it also depends on how deep the story goes.

You can give a lot of information with these things, quick recognition of person, colors can help denote attitudes, give character background. However, is it worth it? Who knows?

Even further should the text box itself change dependent on the person? A military camo colored background? Should it go further and be specified to the person's exact place in the organization? Camo with a slight white and red theme/red cross/Rod of Asclepius for a medic within the army?

I've done a little bit of that on the new boxes *points up*. So at a glance the player can see their rank, ship/organisation, etc and I've changed the backgrounds dependant upon mil, civ, news or VR. I'm mindful not to clutter it up too much but I am starting to wonder if its worth adding some skill badges to some of the others than just the marines.

In my opinion, no. (I say this without knowing what other examples do you have in mind). I see the "marines" badge more like an indication of which military "branch" do they belong to rather than a skill. Though there are skills obviously associated with it.

Is Jolene based on the Dolly Parton song? Seems very reminiscent with the whole husband stealing.

Slightly sad some of the characters from the dev blog won't be joining us but sometimes you have to get rid of the old and take in the new. (insert removal of a regular thread poster joke here).

Ah you were talking the character head boxes, I thought you were more of talking about the actual speaking text and dialog box.

Is there a badge for the reporters reporting fake news?

Adding skills might be interesting but it will clutter fast if you don't design the box well. An empty area above their heads to shove all skills might work to shove them all?

Everyone has more or less different skillsets, so it could end up with so large a list of badges that players would forget what each of them indicate.

I was meaning really basic things, all things being grey, small handgun to say they can shoot, small ship to say they can fly, small beaker for science, etc. Would probably max out at less than 10 icons to remember, and I would think most characters would max at 3 of them.

It is nicer, and I thought you removed that console near the chair in the chris shot, but this one confirms it.

The box does well, and it is better than what I was thinking since the transparency of the whole dialog box is important to show the art.

Too cluttery in my opinion. I don't think it should "replace" the PDA bio.

Icons like these are nifty for squad management games where you want to know the top skills at a glance. I don't see the need for it here.

Like uhmmm, a wrench for all the engineers, wings for the pilots, erlenmeyer for the researchers?
Or more like, a copper coin for the lowest civi, a silver dollar for the medium civies, a stack of banknotes for Amanda?

Well someone did make a transparency box mod for Renpy that should work on most Renpy games without any further work, think it was penfoldmole or something like that. A no underwear mod might be slightly more work except for Sarah of course, we know she tends to forget hers by accident or on purpose. :p
Isn't it possible to make it so there's an option for opacity? Like the sound sliders?
