Is the prologue really that long? Are sure? It has been a while since I had played it.
And the quality of prologue was superb, nothing to say about it.
The major problem is that the dev is TROLLING himself.
If he would have said:
Ok boys, did you enjoy the game? Good? Nice! Let's wait 6 years for the next big release. He would have received probably less flame.
The "AHA! Wait, it is going to be ready this year! No next year? No this year, which is the next year of the last year! No wait... Probably is the next year of the next year"
This is why he is losing face.
Put yourself a damn schedule and then respect it, or you'll lose your reputation for it.
Plus, if he has REALLY worked on his game, I suppose he'll have something ready right?
What's the big deal if he had just packed up some hours of gameplay in small updates once in a while and let people see that he was doing something?
Now, the things are 2:
Or he is going like a train, doing what he wants and working on his project how he wants until it is ready.
Or it's scam.
There have been COUNTLESS projects that had the same fate, put on hold forever, hoping for who knows what kind of release that actually never came out or that happened to be extremely lacking and not worth the wait.
The prologue is pretty damn beefy, yes. Comparable to a AAA title, definitely not, but it's certainly not small, and there are indeed multiple finished games on here with less overall content. If Komi had decided to end things there and call the next part a sequel, with a subtitle and all the fixings, I think that would've been not only plausible but probably the wiser decision.
While I believe that Komi is indeed still working on this game, I definitely do not believe him to be a wise man.
I've asked him the same thing, about releasing a partial update. He's adverse to the idea - the specifics are way back in the thread, but IIRC he's not built things modularly and thus if he releases a partial update he'd need to cap half-formed mechanics and he doesn't want to do that. Again, not a fraud, but definitely not wise. Any professionally trained programmer will tell you to always keep things modular to avoid this exact debacle.
There's almost no chance that this update is worth the wait. The most miraculous part of this update's release, if it happens before Komi catches the 'vid and fucking dies because he's an idiot, is going to be that regular content updates might be able to resume.
I'm not arguing against him losing face, but rather the manner in which people are bashing him. There's a lot Komi has done wrong in this project, and it's almost entirely overshadowed by made up ills. It's like if the thing people remembered about Dan Quayle wasn't that he was a moron, but that he pissed on Neil Armstrong's wife. I don't have to like Dan Quayle to know nothing good can come of blaming him for the latter, imaginary wrong, instead of the former, true one.
