Ren'Py Horton Bay Stories - Jake [v0.4.4.2] [Lumphorn Games]

Oh dear god. I was sort of interested but concerned after going through the dev note. Then I saw the models. My actual first thought was if I had missed this game being about aliens. I didn't mean it entirely seriously, but still. They kinda range from strange but not necessarily in a terrible way to outright horrifying.
Anyway. From the dev note it's clear the dev gives a crap or five, which is great. I imagine the dev must have stared at the models for waaay too long and gotten kinda lost without realizing it, or something. That said, even without the models I'm very much on the fence. In case it's useful I'll leave a few thoughts about why I'm so uncertain, and what kind of information would help me decide if it's worth my time.
* NTR. Optional - yay - followed by "but I like NTR and people still fuck." I fear that perhaps the dev might quite get why some people don't like NTR. Giving me a skip button over an illustrated NTR scene but changing nothing else is not going to help me much. But maybe it's restricted to certain characters that make it clear they're in a relationship and not getting out of it? So... concerned as it's a bit unclear and it's a deal breaker for me. Frankly there's already so many games I'm interested in that I'm having trouble keeping up. Even a reasonably small chance of having to suddenly drop it after an unpleasant surprise is enough to kick it far enough down the queue that it might not get played.
Personally I'm interested in how three different aspects of the game are influenced. What is illustrated or a prominent part of a scene? What is made obvious to the player, such as being mentioned or an obvious setup and fade-to-black? What happens in the dev's conception of the story? I'm also interested in how those categories interact with different kinds of characters. This is obviously way harder to nicely categorize, but some rough indications for where the lines are drawn with the aforementioned aspects for whatever sorts of characters the dev thinks are relevant would be very helpful.
Just in case that's not clear I'll give a couple concrete examples of what I mean. I'm not down - at all - for the main LIs fucking other people even in the dev's head. Even if it's never explicitly mentioned it's gotta influence the story somehow which is just not for me (and in a serial, 'never' tends to be less than an unchanging absolute). Meanwhile if a casual fuckbuddy makes it clear they're in a relationship they aren't leaving and there is an occasional mention they're fucking their SO, I probably don't care so much. But if it's going to be the focus of some scenes - like straight up showing it or there will be scenes focusing on describing it or something - it's a pretty big negative but not an absolute deal breaker so it'll depend for me on the exact details and how much I like the rest of the game.
Right now the dev note could apply to situations I'm totally fine with and those I'm probably not. As a result my expectation for how likely I am to enjoy this game have a pretty wide range just from this alone. This is a good way to end up pretty far back in the queue, especially because it's usually not possible to figure out by playing a couple minutes, and because it can be such a show stopper. It really - really - sucks finding a game that's very enjoyable and then getting thrown more NTR than you can handle.
* Sandbox. Again I think there's just some level of difference between my preferences and the dev, which is totally fine and doesn't matter... except in a few very specific cases... like when I'm thinking of playing a game they're making. It's really nice to see what sound like pretty significant accommodations here, and makes me far more likely to play than just saying "lol it's sandbox, get rekt." However having some content require interacting with it combined with a warning about how threadbare the content (but not number of locations) is *and* that some content is time-gated kind of deep... makes me a little worried. If there are sufficient QoL aides and it's immediately obvious when new content is available and how to get it it may well be a total non-issue. But it could also be a huge pain in the ass if I'm going to feel the need to click through a shitload (57! so far!) of pointless screens repeatedly just in case. So, yet more uncertainty here.
* The number of characters. Over 100 is insane. Literally. I think I kind of glossed over this when I first saw this game. Holy fuck. Yeah I don't think I'll ever be interested in this. But I'm in too deep to stop this, so I'll finish it up and hope it's useful somehow. 100 characters is way too many. It basically means I'm guaranteed my favorite characters will get like two screens every other update if they don't get literally forgotten about. I don't think it's even humanly possible to even keep 100 distinct characters in mind with any amount of depth. You've gotta have some crazy notes even to just keep their basics straight. I'd need them too, if I played this. It also means there's no way there's any real interaction between them on the whole as the number of combinations is way too high. Only a few can actually matter for the story... though do 100 characters jammed together even leave any space for a story? At any rate the character interactions - at least with good characters - are a big part of what drives my interest. And yeah, I don't see how that could even possibly work here. Are you hiding a time machine and the cure for aging? If so, pls DM.
I realize I went a little off the rails at the end, but I do mean to offer this mess in the same spirit as the dev note was written. Hopefully this helps, somehow.... I was originally thinking maybe just adding some info to the dev note, but now I'm thinking maybe slash 80-90% of the characters... holy fuck.

Correctomundo 100% right. Really what I ment by less chaotic is a controlled chaos. The porn industry will never not be in some for of chaos or diseray but by being able to fix the rules and regulations and having all the main players know what is alowed and is not will alow it to precede more smoothly. The thing is their are still sites who have yet to be hit big before that is to truly happen and like I keep on saying we also still lack a hub that would moderate.
as of right now till we get a main hub that creates the standard in the west our sections will be determined on how the unregulated ones get hit. Porn hub and videos became the hub for standard porn but the rest lack one. F95zone seem to be taking over the game section, r18 and javguru has jav down, while the Japanese games have actual studios unlike the west. The thing is their are still no hubs (or at least controlled hubs)for smut art, graphic novels, and henti. While the one I see to get hit in the next few years is doujinshi, hell to prove a point I checked out nhentai, e.g-hentai and hitomi which are in a sense their main hubs and got some guru, distiality, scat and lolicon (I think one might have even been todlercon but I wasn’t going to look) that shit was on their front page

There is a basic walkthrough included in the root folder of the game for now, but I will be adding a more in depth diary/hint system to the objectives menu at some point. Also have plans for an achievements screen to help players keep track of available content for each character.

Right now the NTR content is still fairly limited, but we're only a couple of updates in. I won't be dropping either story path, don't worrythanks for your reply my friend. i guess i skip this and wait little longer. i hope ntr doesn't get dropped and i know doing 2 paths is a lot of work. but keep at it dev

I believe you will only be seeing that message if you've used the cheats to increase Gemma's affection points above what you can currently gain normally (9 as of 0.1.2).
Anyone have a list of something like that showing max affection points of all female characters ???

Yes, that's another thing that has brought up a few times and is on my list. I'm still deciding the best way to implement it, but it's most likely going to end up in the fast travel menu. Possibly on the phone, or both.
This is somethng that I have planned for the new objectives system I mentioned before.
I'll have it list the maximum possible points that can be gained depending on current progress with a given character. And how to proceed with their arc.
for the map head. bottom left hand corner, smallish and slightly dimed or seethru I found to be the best when people do this. the question is main map only or on all maps because the ladder is a lot of floating heads while the former is a one and done.
for the stats max it would also be a good idea to put a hard cap on them in the cheat menu as well. people will just up the level till they cant no more which can break the game if theirs no cap and state story caps
Am I misunderstanding what you're saying? Are you saying you can fuck Christine as of v0.1.2, or are you saying fucking her in the future will be hot? I haven't stumbled on that yet, and I was under the impression that I've done everything available in the game so far (I was following the WT). The furthest I got with her was a BJ when she's drunk (or being spitroasted by Lucas and MC). But not fucking.
