Dev Talk - Final move

Well, I'm finally in my apartment that I'll call home for at least the next two years. It's empty of furniture, I don't even have a mattress yet but at least my desk was delivered so I can get back to rendering. Priorities amirite?

Shipping container with my 2nd monitor and office chair should arrive next month, so I'll try to make do with the stool till then. Internet should be hooked up in a couple of days but I can render offline no problem.

Dev Talk - Chugging along

Renders are going good aside from a weird bug I'm encountering. One of the GPU's stops working halfway through a render and nothing happens for a couple of minutes before everything resumes again. Weird shit that adds time to each render but at least nothing breaks. Hopefully it's just a scene specific bug.

I have also experimented with animation retargeting. Was expecting a disaster but the first run ended up pretty decent. I should have cleaned it up more but after spending a day setting it up and running multiple cloth and boobie simulations, I figured it was good enough to be included despite being a little awkward.

On a personal note, my ass and back are sore from working on a stool but at least my bed and mattress have arrived so I'm no longer sleeping on the floor. Now if only the fridge would arrive soon my diet could stop consisting of canned food and beef jerky.

If the devs sees this message : try to deactivate GPU acceleration on windows 11. Got a few friends that had some issue with that shit

Dev Talk - Smooth Sailing


Nothing special to discuss this time around as things have been going rather smoothly. I've even received my fridge and eating my veggies like a champ!

Skipped around to focusing on rendering Raya's content. It's some pretty damn cute stuff so I wanted to keep the cute mood going and knock it all out this week before turning back towards the more depraved Ma & Selene content.

Had a lot of candle/moonlight renders to do so decided to try a different way to do the lighting. Seems to have worked out fine but will know for sure once I get to post proc.

But if you are in search for a great game, funny as hell (yes, porn and funny) you will enjoy this game. And laugh you ass off in the process. This is a great VN.

Dev Talk - Swag & Pubes

Another great week of renders with some unexpected technical improvements.

1. I've been using Marvelous Designer to simulate clothes for nearly every pose. It involved some prep work in between renders like exporting out animations each time. Talking to OZ, we somehow discovered that I'm a dummy and there's a built feature of MD that takes care of some of this prep-work for you. The final result doesn't change but it definitely saves some time with each simulation.

2. The latest beta version of Blender has some great new non-destructive hair tools. Was able to quickly put together some genital hair for characters.

Other than the hair tools themselves being improved and much easier to use, since this is all non-destructive, it's fairly simply to transfer most of the work to other characters. Here for example, I can simply paint a mask of where I want the hair to be, while having nondestructive parameters that define the shape and other characteristics of the curves. I'm really excited to see how the new hair system continues to develop. I still have PTSD from making Raya's hair from scratch in the old system. Took me 3 weeks of all sorts of tricks and nonsense just to get it somewhat presentable and even then it bugs out half the time.

Dev Talk - Uneventful

Just as the title says, an uneventful week with production going more or less as expected. Got some animations done that turned out fine aside from one. Spent some time figuring out AI tools to generate some images for in-game rather than trying to search for CC stock images online.

I've also realized that I'm putting together several new outfits each episode and that this is a great way to get you guys involved. Going forward, I'll start including community voting on outfits.

Dev Talk - Approaching the finish line

I'm on to the final event for chapter 3. This will include multiple animations and cloth simulations that will take some time, but it feels good to be on the final sprint.

I've begun using a different cloth workflow partway through this update which seems to have great results. It's made it possible to simulate clothes while retaining some basic function such as buttons that fasten/unfasten, or in Ma's case, her robe being physically tied together until curious hands untie it.

I've also been utilizing AI to generate new reference sheets. This seems to give better results than scouring Google & Pinterest for expressions and poses. AI also seems to be really fucking horny because most poses come out turbo sexualized, which is great for a porn game.

It's still bleeding edge and has a lot of room for improvement, but it's nice to have some level of consistency between references. I will continue updating the sheet as AI continues to improve but it's already been a tremendous help.

I've also started looking into line of action from traditional drawings to get a better grasp on how to pose characters. Ma immediately benefited from this as her latest renders really let that ridiculously thicc figure shine.

The biggest question mark that stands in the way of ch.3 delivery has to do with when the shipping container arrives with all of my stuff. Should have been here almost two weeks ago but shipping delays keep stacking up. My monitor calibration tool is in the container and I'd like to use it for grading ch.3 renders. It should arrive within the next two weeks but if I finish rendering before then, I guess I'll have time to finally work on the UI and possibly implement the scene gallery system. Not to mention the tears of joy I'll cry when my office chair arrives, this bar stool is killing me.

I'm overall happy with the progress this week.

It's sounding like we may get an update in April. Considering the wait time between Ch. 1 and Ch. 2, and his move, I'm impressed. And very excited.
