Fun fact, I almost named the game something along the lines of 'Memory and Desire' but decided against it because I wanted to bury all the pretentious stuff deep enough into the game that I could get some decent reviews before I ruined everyone's fun.

Well, been playing for a while and I'm astounded at how many characters there are to hate in this game. Ness and her entire family can just go into the woodchipper Fargo-style honestly, been a while since I've hated characters to this degree.
Marci and Zoe are also just some really shitty humans.

On the more technical side of things; lighting is good, scene framing is pretty solid. Pacing feels a bit jarring at times, like it speeds up just to land MC into more bullshit and then slows down again.
Models are good - but almost too detailed, getting too close to uncanny valley, and the proportions look a tad wonky at times and with certain characters (like Marci).

It's also just a bit strange that a game focused on "VR sim" basically is 90% random corporate bullshit forced espionage instead of.. VR sim?


Overall, not quite sure what to make of this. I've yet to finish it, so I suppose I'll update if there's anything that changes my mind or if I want to add later on.

I suspect by then you may want to revise that last statement (but maybe not!), the others not so much.

I mean the main issue is a game that ends up disproportionately skewed towards either or, which splits the playerbase unnecessarily.
Or the plot might just get too convoluted or diluted depending on if the dev wants to introduce more plot threads within VR sim.

tl;dr, it's a gamble with far more risk than payoff generally speaking.

EDIT- oh goddamnit.
Not only am I now more pissed off, but the game basically fucked itself over with maintaining any sort of suspension of disbelief. If everything is just manufactured to fuck with the MC, the viewer has no idea what is narratively real and what is not, and nothing matters anymore. Any type of impact from narrative shift or choices is now basically null and void because the viewer has no idea if it even means anything anymore.

Shame, because I have an inkling of what the dev was intending with the story, and it was interesting for a while but this just kills any type of story outside of "here have funny porn sequence, jack off, alt f4".

If I had my druthers, the MC would just keep throwing himself off ledges in every situation. Eventually Qai'd have to adjust its tactics, if he didn't get lucky and really kill himself first.

On another note, I do appreciate you being transparent with what you're trying to do, it's definitely a bit easier discussing what works and what doesn't (on a personal level) when you can outline your vision and what you intend with this story.

EDIT- Although I will say, since you pointed it out, this definitely wasn't the story I was expecting when I read the synopsis.

If you aren't talking about that, then I don't know what you're referring to since I didn't really see any other scenes where sharing was a thing.

The game deserves, at the very least, the swinging tag. I'll update the tags once I release the content that includes those scenes. I'm not especially petty, but I don't feel the need to update tags when the one release I told my subscribers wasn't going to go public gets leaked.
I've seen bigger spoilers, sometimes the error reports can be really huge.
In my defense, 0.5 wasn't supposed to be public yet. That gives me a total cop out on all bugs (even though I should've caught them way before it got leaked).

Again, the amount of transparency is quite refreshing, big fan. It's easy to tell that you've got a fair bit of skill and I'd absolutely be into checking out whatever new game you make down the line. If anything, this game will atleast be some lessons learned in a lot of aspects, regardless of how it turns out.

Thanks for indulging me a bit on these discussions, I've honestly had a blast poking and prodding at your brain for the last few replies, and again I apologize if it came off as disrespectful or antagonistic, it wasn't my intention at all.
Again, looking forward to the next game if you decide to make one, since it's clear that you've got a lot more knowhow narratively speaking than a lot of game devs on here and I'm excited to see the full potential of it.

No worries, you've been incredibly cool and I honestly enjoy critical conversations like this one. They force me to take a step back and look at everything from a different perspective which is something I constantly force myself to do to keep the story from getting too bonkers. You should've seen some of my first drafts.

My pricklier comments were more generally directed toward some of the other types of comments. Also, my back was kind of sore so I was a little bit grumpy.

Not to beat a dead horse, since I think we've both done a decent job of explaining our perspectives -

Side note, I've been playing around with my pregnancy morph options, and while I don't think I've gotten it exactly where I want it, I think I'm getting close. It'll probably be one of those things that I have to tweak a little bit depending on pose/camera angle, but I've at least found a decent starting point.

I am a sucker for more critical and in depth conversations, as even though I'm not a dev myself, hearing a devs perspective on things will give me a different perspective to view things from as you pointed out.
Also I mean, I can somehow see a song and dance routine working in a way, it's definitely off the wall though that's for certain.
It would've been interesting given the perspective of the human brain being able to create some real fever-dream type shit when either put under duress or subjected to influence of substances, extreme sleep deprivation or certain mental illnesses, so you absolutely could've gone HAM with some of the sims.

Honestly I'm still surprised at how good the renders are in terms of quality, especially given that it's a first game.
