You could fill a small book with reasons why it is a hot topic. It can be the contrast between mental and physical attractiveness (nobility/peasantry, beauty/beast, wise/irrational) that turns people on, especially in terms of what it implicates when characters jump on a skeleton (willingly or not). Are they prostituting themselves out for money and status? Or is the partner's look and wallet irrelevant as long as they are being satisfied (trope of the nymphomaniac)? Do they enjoy being seen forever young in the eyes of a much older partner and are therefor less inhibited when it comes to seeking pleasure? It's an asymmetric relationship for sure.
