the laptop im using has no admin access. I can't install using the compat_layer trick
But anyways I found a file that doesn't need the rtp so I can play the game already

Have you followed the instructions? You need to launch it via Japanese Emulator.

It worked, kinda. There's no text, just empty spaces where the text should be.

The problem isn't Japanese Emulation, you are missing the RPGM RTP. Next step in the instructions.

so I downloaded RPGM XP RTP, all that works fine and brings me to the blank text that others have had before putting in the translation. I downloaded the translation patch given in the first post, and extracted it to the game folder so it replaced the old files. But it's still not loading any text. Did I do something wrong?
