No because Nintendo hit him with a copyright.
It means if he tries to work on this ever again a very rich, very powerful company with a large team of lawyers are going to butt fuck him dry.
Even if he had a case for parody they would hold it up in court until he could no longer pay legal fee's and win by default.
This is dead, he has no way of working on it again or he's fucked.
It's not Patreon telling him to stop, it's a billion dollar corporation telling him if he touches this game again they will ruin his life. Quite literally.

Could be, tho it would still involve court, nintendo wouldn't need to win, even tho they pry would, all they have to do is have a 'who can afford legal fees longer' battle. Now image Mt. Everest & it's hollow, nintendo can fill it with money....money they can use to throw at court fees until dev goes poor or postal due to stress >;D
Its unfortunate, I really enjoyed this game too.
Actually, he can continue this, in a way. Modify and rename every pokemon model in the game, slightly, so it ceased to be an intellectual property of shittendo. You know, like make pikachu green with 3 tails, horns, and call him bakachu. Something like that xD

Dev does have a case for parody but Nintendo would still drag it to court and drain the devs funds.
Nintendo is a Japanese company, they don't follow a lot of the "rules" western companies do and allow leeway to fans for fan made stuff and parody games.
They give zero fucks and have a habit of going after any that pop up.
It's hard to claim parody when you outright use the various "pokemon" names, looks, etc, in such a way as to possibly offend. Nintendo has an intellectual property (IP) in Pokemon, and this game could have caused harm to that property if those holier than thou types had gotten wind of it. It's bad enough their little darlings could see kids and monsters getting along, but then to see them with cocks and fucking? OMG, the sky is falling, it's the end of days, etc.
I say that tongue in cheek, but that is exactly the kind of arguments that Nintendo would make, and a jury would find in their favor every time. Plus, if you don't defend your IP, future usage of it gets harder to defend. Pokemon is an insanely profitable IP, so of course they will defend it.
There's a book series available on Amazon called "Catch All the Girlfriends", and it is much more parody-ish than this game is, and contains graphic descriptions of sex between the "trainer" and the "girlfriends". Nintendo wouldn't be able to go after it easily, since the author doesn't use any Pokemon names, etc. If the game author did the same thing by bypassing the IP of Nintendo, he'd have been fine.

I have no way of knowing but we accept parodies here in the Western world and the dev probably just didn't think that a giant corporation would bother with a tiny independent guy.
But yeah if he had changed the names and how the characters look then they would have had less cause.
Then it comes down to money, even if they knew they would loose Nintendo has the resources to out spend you. You only have the freedom you can afford.
I am NOT a fan of Japanese (or any Asian businesses). For a culture that touts honor codes they are one of the most underhanded in business. True honor IS NOT situation conditional as many Eastern cultures seem to treat the concept.

I stopped playing this game a while back and looks like it was for the better lol...but...
Not-so easy fix...if he and his followers like the storyline and concept...
Change the look of the characters, the names/name styles, the art style, etc...basically make it all look like a totally different thing...keep nothing that even resembles a Pokemon, and you can keep the majority of the dialogue, only removing stuff that mentions similarities to Pokemon, and won't have to start a new game....all that has been mentioned above....There would definitely be a lot of time involved in recreating the art, but it'd still be doable...even now.

Be easier just to do what he did and start a new game.
