Ok, now you made me feel old too! But apart from that, the whole Napster incident let to Metallica opening up to the community, being much more forthcoming after the 'incident' then before. I know. I've had the immense pleasure of sitting down and talk about it with the Danish philosopher/drummer under four eyes.
20 minutes after releasing the first Chapter of LoF i got my first Patreon question: 'Will there be NTR in the game.' I have to admit, I had to google that shit. I also deducted that people are less than interested in having the best friend being anything else than 'there when needed'. So I didn't write in any conversation about Chris being interested in anybody at all.
Though, even if it's out of the blue, there hasn't been a whole lot of situations where I could write it in. Maybe towards the very end of Chapter 3 where Chris could have said something like 'I like that Robin chick, she brings out the Batman in me'.
It's easy to say: Don't listen to the community. But when you have just released your first chapter, waiting for the headchop and bad reviews with 0 patreons, you just do listen. There's no way around it. Luckily the readers of my game should know by now what type of story I want to show, and that content added is in the best interest of the story, and not to add fuel to kinks.
Is this where I mention that the script for my next story has around 60 characters?

Dude, I had to google it when I came on here... I was like "what's all this excitement about NTR?", people were really up in arms about it. I think a lot of people have a weird view of what it is. For me if I turn down someone I don't care if they go fuck someone else, as long as I don't have to see it. And it isn't even that I am "jealous" that some random render is fucking another random render. My issue is that if I am playing a Main Character then I want the developer to spend their time and money on showing me the Main Character's path. I want that effort to not be "wasted" on side events.
An addition like that would have been great. Just felt very out of left field. But I get you, it's not an easy task to make these games solo.

And at this point I like all of the characters just to varying degrees.
This game is my favourite (I wrote a list with it as my favourite a few months ago, short after its first part was published here) because how nice the scenes are edited: synchronizing music and images (the cleaning and the limo), the reactions and expressions of the protagonists, like the moment you take a photo of Cece/Linda, the expression of their faces after that (Cece shy, Linda interested), so sutile... the top gun moment (no "need for speed" phrase there though)... and many other moments I really enjoyed. Resuming... the script and "directing" of the game is outstanding. I only miss more sex, more content, more of this game... The moment Linda is touching herself while the player is trying to beat someone to candy crush, 2 meters away... All the Lexi stuff... just awesome.
But I think my favourite moment, and with this I totally go for a girlfriend for Chris, is the bag moment, the anxious attack when he knows he's gonna spend a few days with Lexi. I did LOL that moment, and friends are to share those moments. So as my friend I totally want him to be happy, yeah, I know it's a game, they're not real, but I don't play like that. I like to "be" in the player's skin while I play, or when I see a movie.
To be honest I always skip text in all the adults VN's I've played, when they are talking about trivial things just to justify their next sex or nudity scene. This game was the only one I didn't do that because, in my opinion, all the talkling has a reason and every scene is a gift.
So harem or not? I really don't care, I would play this game (and this game only) even without sex scenes, characters are very well-formed without the need of stereotypes. I'm not a romantic guy, I usually play these games as a substitute of porn, but I had a lot of feelings playing Leap of faith, specially about Cece (I like curvy girls, but she's so cute). The bridge incident was shocking, and the pond kiss...the music helped a lot too.
So when any friend asks: what VN to play now? I ask them: to fap or to enjoy? If the answer is the latter I always say Leap of Faith. I don't think this game needs incest (which I love for the morbid I guess) or harem, or strange deviations, there are lots of games full of that. I like the realistic aproach, I know it's not very realistic to have a pop star girlfriend, yes, but it's less likely to be banging 10 girls, sometimes with them knowing that and agreeing, and some of them your own family. And someone said, some posts before in this thread, you have to choose ONE girl, well so far I banged Kira, Robin and Stephanie, that's half of the girls with romantic options.
I don't really like the hidden points system, I played the game several times until I found a mod which tells you the good options. It's ok in a game with a lot of girls or a lot of sex content, but to know there are scenes you have lost because of your choices (and those choices are not trivial) is something I don't really like. Like the task of contact Lexi... I had to check the forums to figure out the Nüke stuff the first time...
But besides that it's the best AVN in terms of script and scene directing and ambientation I've played.

So here's my take. I usually have no desire to see a "Best Friend" character getting a LI, mainly due to the fact they're written in a way, that I could give less of a fuck if the dude got married or hit by a truck. But Chris is written well enough that I wouldn't mind seeing him be happy with someone at the very least I am open to the idea. I just have no interest or desire in seeing any "spicy" scenes with him. But if he goes for Cece or Lexi... We'll be throwing hands.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, Drifty! I know we're never supposed to wonder how the sausage is made, but I admit I always find it fascinating.
Ayhsel and MrFriendly already covered most of my thoughts on this above, especially the dangers of listening too much to "customers" without careful consideration. That said, there is one thing I wanted to mention.
I think the value that Chris getting a girl will add to the story is directly proportional to how natural the relationship between them feels; the more we can buy into that relationship and follow why it works, the more it will inform us about the characters involved and the more we will care about protecting them and their happy ending.
The downside of this is that it means something could be lost if we don't hook Chris up. Even if you don't add any dialog to foreshadow the relationship, seeing a healthy relationship between Chris and 'Lady X' in one playthrough will inevitably contrast with seeing them apart on another playthrough. If their relationship rings true in the first case, I think it's always going to feel like something is missing in the latter case. If both seem fine when they end up apart, it's going to make the relationship when they are together feel shallow.
In theory, you can compensate for that by developing the characters and adding a touch of bittersweet to the ending(s) when they end up apart; that is effectively what happens to unchosen LIs in a non-harem game, right? But the more that happens with Chris and Lady X, the more I think the players who didn't want Chris anywhere near their harem are going to cry foul anyway.
In short, I question whether pairing Chris up with an unused LI will actually save you any headache over just making Christine a character in her own right and weathering the storm of players angry they can't steal her away themselves. I understand your reasoning, but I'm not sure it will work out in practice.
That's just my opinion, however, and there's a distinct possibility I'm not quite the target audience for this game in the first place. So take my advice with as much salt as you can.

For the topic of Chris getting a girlfriend of his own, look at Jacob in Become A Rock Star for an example of how to give "best-friends" of MC their own girl.
Give him random girls that aren't LI's of MC for hookups, like Jacob has, and when/if he does get a GF himself, don't make that girl one of MC's LI's either.
Not a soul has complained about Jacob getting his own girls, he even has his own scenes and people don't complain.
That said, if Chris is likable enough and the girl in question is a good match for him, go for it anyway. Like Liam and Rene (?) or Melissa in Acting Lessons.
But even then.....
You have to remember, the majority of the players do not care. The whiners will whine (on both side of it), but they are a minority. The silent majority do not care, that's why they don't really have anything to say about it.

I'm not unconvinced that Jet had Julia shot because of people begging for her.Well, some of the lack of outrage over Jakob having girls could be because all that energy has been directed at the fact that Julia is unattainable.

Well it can happen, there is even a game where the mother is keeping the daughters from hooking up with MC or at least trying, but yeah that dev has a hard philosophy that the mom is not shown naked in showers, with only a blanket or makes insinuating remarks she would be interested in the Son in a relation or sexual way and she does not even look bad.Hopefully Drifty won't have to worry about anything like that. Setup has a lot to do with it as well.For myself I would indeed prefer if Christine had entered the scene already in episode 3, if someone is supposed to be romantically in the arms of Chris in the end of episode 4. I set out before why for me none of the current Li's, with exception of Holly if there were some heavy action there in other updates of chapter 4, would feel natural or believable for that so soon now and a few good arguments have been given also why using a by then former LI can feel kinda bad when she will be ending LI for MC in another route.
Think Sisterly Lust indeed did it quite well as well for the best friend that was a great guy and I let him happily end up with his sister and possibly cousin just as also the ex GF from youth worked quite well as a story not ending up with MC.
I think it's a mistake when devs do what some or even most of players want. In most cases players want to lower frustration when playing so devs could just put all chars in a row and let the player choose who to bang. Yeah, the problem is that is not a game anymore. Frustration is a part of the experience the same way realism level is. If you play a game where the player is saving the day every chapter, handleing nuclear weapons and zombie aliens... you won't be surprised by anything because the realism is totally gone. Sex is frustration. Frustration is wanting something you don't have, and when you get it, it becomes satisfaction. Orgasm is just that: an increase of excitment until it reaches a climax and descend quickly to calm. So no, most players are just wanting things happen when they play, depending on individual circumstances, it will work for some, and it will mess the game for others, so I think the dev, who actually spend much more time and effort thinking what to do next and how, must be the only one who takes decissions. Again, the question is: you want the most people to like playing your game or less people who really love it? You can't make anything everyone loves. Decissions is about that.
