Is this game really as sad and gloomy as people claim it to be?

Most of the game I found incredibly fun, even laughing out loud at some scenes (Both Bunny slipper dances come to mind) but when it gets serious, it really hits home.

As paradroid said, most of the game is very fun. From the beginning until about 3/4 through chapter 6, the story is mostly upbeat and a really good time. There are a couple of serious moments in the beginning, but they are short lived.

The end of chapter 6 is very heavy and chapter 7 deals mostly with the fallout. Towards the end of chapter 7, things start to become more fun again but the weight of previous events looms heavily over everything. If you do decide to read, which I highly encourage, just be warned that the end of chapter 6 hits hard. Very hard.

Hopefully (unlike real life) the story will end with the same humor and fun that it began with. Which would leave you with maybe a chapter's worth of sadness and seven chapters of laughs. Either way, you still get eight chapters of excellent story.

The game is not really "sad and gloomy" ... but there is a tale being told that has many serious elements, and those elements aren't taken lightly.

They culminate at the end of chapter 6 and continue through much of chapter 7 ...

Still, if the end of chapter 7 -- and the hints of chapter 8 -- are any indication, I expect the finish to live up to the promise the game has made.

First of all, thank you for your nice comments and messages after last week's post. You certainly know how to put a smile on my face.

I sat down a few weeks ago, thought about the progress, and decided things are going too slowly. So I've only been rendering the end scenes since then. I can't remember the last time I could do a scene that doesn't have several alternative versions, and it's very refreshing.

That also means I'm holding off on the concert scene animations because right now I don't know which song I can use. Luckily, I got the rights to the backup song, but I'm still hoping I can get the license for the song I had originally intended. And those animations I can easily do at a much later point, even when the release is in testing.

There's been progress on the music licensing too. I've signed and paid for 32 songs, while another 37 are being discussed. Monday I'll contact the next batch of composers, and basically, that's how the weeks go on the music front. You get some, you lose some, and you keep sending emails.

Render count is increasing fast too. I surpassed 2,100 renders this week, meaning more than 200 renders a week in the last two weeks.

Otherwise, there's not much more to report. But I'm also tinkering with the release date video right now. It will be out later today.

Too bad it's going to end but this is just a kind of game which shouldn't keep going on. It's just to strong for that and would only make it weaker. To end it now on it's high point is the best. This story is just too good to keep going on and on.

Found this game when 5 chapters were released and waited in anticipation for the update which was the infamous chapter 6. Damn.... cried like a baby. Especially when i found out what Drifty has been going through. Just made me respect him so much more. How strong you have to be to do that. Some people will say it's a way of dealing and it is, but just don't forget he also gets confronted eavery single time he work on LoF. As i said RESPECT!

I really hope he will continue making games allthough it will be very hard for him to make one as good as Leap of Faith. It's just a gem and i certainly will enjoy every moment still to come in chapter 8.

I was already in love with it after the first playthrough. I've never cried over a lewd game. This shit had me bawling. I can't think of any other game that had that effect on me. Except maybe when I saw the latest Mass Effect teaser (because I'm a huge nerd).

Sure, we could just watch the video and learn when Chapter 8 is coming out the easy way, but what do the actual numbers say?

Well, Drifty completed 260+ story renders this week. No word on animations for the second week in a row, so I'd say we can assume animations are probably close to complete and it's just down to still images as Drifty wraps up the story. That means Drifty's overall average is now ~59 story renders and 790 frames of animation per week since Chapter 7 launched. Here are the charts:

As you can see, this surge in story renders means Drifty would hit our guesstimated target story number in roughly 3 weeks. If we assume about two weeks after that to polish up the finale and test everything thoroughly, that matches the official September 9 release date. So I'd say our instincts were spot on and this completely validates the strictly numerical approach to charting a dev's progress! Woohoo! (Just pay no attention to the similar estimate line on the animation chart, everyone knows that one doesn't count! )

Anyway, definitely looking forward to seeing the conclusion. August is going to be a crazy busy month for me, but if I'm lucky things will have calmed down just in time for the release. And it's nice to hear "Hold Back the Sun" at least one more time before the end.

I had a free afternoon and had this on my list for a while. Gotta say - this isn't a porn game. It's a slice of life. The dev has outdone themselves with both the heavy tones and the humor. For every wholesome moment with Chris, you have a heartfelt moment with one of the girls and it doesn't feel forced. I understand the praise for this game because it's well-deserved. Easily made top five games for me, and I cannot wait for the finale and to replay for the different paths.

Also out of the bros in porn games, Chris is only second to Derek from BaDIK. I found most fell flat to be plot devices for meeting new girls or cheating segments, but Chris is a great piece of the story. Kinda reminds me of a friend of mine, minus the sweet stache.

Drifty has already said in multiple posts that he's already done at least basic concept work on his next game, and I know that at least four girls are out there to be seen from it (I don't know if they're just renders released on discord or hidden in LoF or whatever). I'll definitely be waiting (im)patiently.

yea, there are many games where sexscenes are just sidecontent since story is so good and believable.

As mentioned by others, 90% of the story is upbeat and packed with humor. However the optional scene at the end of chapter 6 is where the story hits home for many (and nearly broke me because I ignored the warning). A word of caution: Take the warning from Drifty seriously and SKIP this scene if you're not in a healthy state of mind.

Ch 7 deals with the aftermath of Ch 6, however the tone lightens up as you progress through the chapter. If you pay close attention to the story you'll notice a subtle role reversal between Cece and the MC during this chapter which hopefully plays into Ch 8 for those on the Cece path.
