Well, I was writing down anything that even remotely suspicious for a while now, like, random lottery number and number of stars, just for that kind of shit. Wonder if it will help me when I get my hands on the update though xD
Or its an actual puzzle? Like, real puzzle? Not this random thing?

This puzzle everyone is talking about is clearly what the dev was worried about with the warning about subscriptions. I still look forward to the update, personally, but I get why they frustrate many people.

Interesting update. I was a bit more worried considering the "refund" message. Wonder what the next non-rework update will bring

I feel I should clarify -- I am not saying he lost %25 of his supporters. Only that his income from Patreon fell by %25 since Patreon raised their stink about the game. Presumably, most of that simply moved over to Gamepass or Subscribestar.

I point that out because despite how much of a PITA it's been for both him (has to create two version of the game) and the consumer (who has to download two files to update the game through Patreon vs one download for Subscribestar), only %25 made that move.
I was also referring to the same, whether supporters or income, that's still an entire quarter of what he had at the time, which is significant. I do hope that it was simply a transfer from one avenue to another and not the usual mentality of 'this game got hit by Patreon, abandon ship' that I nearly fell to as well.

Yeah Sel's income was over 12,000 dollars before the patreon issue and after that patreon issue was resolved and that's where the huggyboy version came out, it fell to 7k real quick but I think the subscribers just switched to subscribestar since the subscribestar has the thing they've been paying for.
I hope so, he deserves what he was getting if not more.

Random question but does anyone remember what Sensei's "slightly thicker" shirt is made of? Like what kind of material? I very vaguely remember him mentioning it.
I can't say I do, I guess I get to be one of the people who fail the next quiz because I'm an idiot and didn't write it down like I've been doing for any piece of information that randomly comes up out of nowhere. When Selebus puts some seemingly random mention of something that seems unimportant, it isn't random, it is very much planned and it could very easily come up in a future event as a puzzle answer. A LOT of people found this out the hard way with the event "There Is Nothing."

And now I am panicking that my perfect run is in jeopardy. :ROFLMAO:

Actually how is gamepass? Is it better for him than subscribestar?
It is more of a 'if you don't want to use SubscribeStar or don't want to pay monthly' kind of thing, but as far as I can tell, it only lasts a year before having to pay again based on what it is called, specifically the use of the word "annual" in its name. Kind of like how some MMOs, like Bioware's SWTOR, have a plan that lets you pay for premium access in larger amounts over more spread out periods of time.

I looked at 'Stray Cat' and 'Hotel Room' and based on my skimming they don't say it there.

So I'll just guess and say 'cotton'. Without checking all the dialogue yourself you can't know for sure if I'm lying or not!
I have to go with cotton myself since, again, I was an idiot and didn't write down information that was practically holding a neon sign over its proverbial head to me.

[/QUOTE]
So the truth is a terrible counter? That's what the studio was designed for, otherwise there would be no studio. Illusion isn't that stupid. There is no license to seek from Illusion, yet they could easily enforce one if they really wanted to.

And no, more people pay for LiL because it is a good game, regardless of being shared here. Selebus has actually stated that the few times it DOESN'T get posted here before the public release are when he sees the biggest increase in patrons. Why is that? Because the only way to get the game's latest release in cases where the leaks don't occur are his official links, which are patron locked until the public release.

The game would most certainly exist without piracy, it is good enough to stand on its own even against some AAA developers. In fact, it could have put up quite a bit of competition for some AAA games if it weren't for the more controversial sides of the game and the sexual content. It might have gotten a slower start, but piracy was never necessary.

Yeah, you actually can cherry pick when piracy is fine, that's called personal preference. It is acceptable when the developer is being a major asshole to his players, is milking his patrons, or is spending time on completely unnecessary things like DRM to stop people from modding back in content he removed for whatever reason, it is fine when no other way exists to get a game, like 99% of Japanese games, including Koikatsu before Party existed.

I don't think Selebus will stop 'stealing from Illusion' since nobody is, you can't stop what isn't happening. You are also assuming that developers are automatically using a pirated version of their Illusion product, I've got news, there are now ways to get several Illusion games legitimately. This one has a Steam version called Party.

Diehard? Hardly, when the Patreon incident happened, I nearly abandoned ship. That's not something a diehard fan would do. Intentionally ignorant? Again, hardly, I'm just using what Selebus himself has said. Illusion doesn't WANT their assets stolen, there is no stealing, the studio exists to be used for things like this or there would not be a studio. I don't care if complaining changes anything, if I really cared, I would do something that actually has an impact. Just because it does nothing doesn't mean I'm not going to do it.

Ow we got some argument going on here

That sounds about right, I could definitely see it given Selebus has shown he does like meaningful consequences like what you get for being a bad homie.

Mega

Patreon is easier for him to get the money, whereas subscribestar is easier for users but takes longer to pay him. They both take approximately the same amount of money.

Way better, because he gets all the money minus the payment processor cut (no Patreon or Subscribestar taking an extra cut).
Okay, now I get the difference, thanks for the clarification.

Just getting out in front of everything that will inevitably happen here, there is a puzzle in the new update and it's huge and a real doozy. I've been kinda ambivalent about the puzzles thus far but this one is...... actually really fun!
I know saying this is probably futile but I really suggest people take an honest crack at it before immediately jumping to looking up the answers, whenever people inevitably start posting them here.
If anyone is really at their wit's end (hell even I am stuck on one of the answers), message me directly and I can give you a hint to help point you in the right direction (keep in mind I can't respond while I'm at work), but I really do implore people to try to solve it themselves.
Oh no, who got on Selebus's bad side this time? :p (This is in reference to the first puzzle added, which if I remember correctly, was specifically added because people weren't paying attention to the actual story and it got annoying to Selebus)

I have to echo this sentiment, I would definitely at least try the game's puzzles before looking up the answers, and if you were paying attention to the text, some things did seem kind of random and out of place in previous puzzles, so that is a good strategy. Pay attention to the story, every word of it, and write down anything that jumps out at you as those could VERY easily be answers. Also remember to keep your audio on as there may or may not be puzzles after "There Is Nothing" with answers only available in the audio of the puzzle event.

It took me over three hours, yes THREE HOURS, to complete "There Is Nothing" the first time as I was an idiot and was not writing things down, so even when I was paying close attention to the story, I forgot things.

Great, another puzzle... cue the uninterested, the lazy, the disabled and those who cannot figure out the moon logic the dev was using all asking for help and getting the hinters, the purists, the trolls and smug elitists all taking the opportunity to either offer no help or frustratingly laborious help that has an incredibly high noise to signal ratio. Cue all of that happening 50 times over as each person from the first category comes in and their question is lost to an entire page from the second category.
There's a reason my assistance has some pretty major rules to be followed with a no tolerance policy enforcing them. I WILL offer legitimate assistance, no trolling, no fake news answers, but I won't give answers directly to people who haven't even tried, or at all really. There are usually previous events that held answers to whatever puzzle the person is stuck on and, now that there is an instant replay function, I will point them at said events if I can remember event names.

I'm not taking a personal swipe at you, but that bolded part is problem for all hinters, what you 'think' will apply to some but not others and that's where the laborious part comes in for everyone else cause that's where you're specific help is actually no help. Props for those you do help but that still leads to a very simple alternative, all can be helped if and when someone eventually just offers a simple bullet point list, Do A then B then C, enjoy. That helps 99% of people from the first category. If your plan is to only help half the people who come to you... then that puts you even further into the second category.

Look, don't go turning this into more than what i was aiming at, i don't want to argue points for or against each individual's attitudes to this topic, my only point was how it's always a shitshow and i'm not looking forward to it.
But what that also does is provide a way to NOT experience the game as intended. This is why my personal rules are in place. Helping find answers, by giving events where the answers are, is a viable alternative to just giving the answers away that results in the game being experienced as intended. For those that cannot handle even that, it may just be a case of the game not being right for them, which is often the case with several aspects of this game, especially with it being in the Denpa subgenre of horror.

Has anyone gone through the scenes where they flash images or text and compiled what is actually said/shown? I know on the wiki they translate the hexidecimal and spanish, etc, but I don't know about the flashed images/text.
On a loosely related note, German used as one of these when? (Not a native speaker, but I am able to translate whereas my Spanish is horrendous) :p Okay, back to being serious, I can't say I have, but have you tried using the Cheat Engine speed hack? I don't know if it works or not, all I know is that it can slow things down in games where it works, which might give you enough time to read.

After fiddling around with the puzzle for about half an hour, I now understand why Selebus specifically pointed out that subscriptions are non-refundable in advance of the update. I can see some people getting REALLY pissed off by this one.

I don't have the bandwidth to deal with this right now. I may set this aside until the rework comes out and I get in the full end to end replay I've been putting off.

To clarify: I love the puzzle, just having a bad brain day, and the time-investment of going through a nontrivial number of old events I'll be repeating in a couple of months anyway just doesn't seem like an efficient use of time.
yes, I immediately knew why as soon as puzzles were mentioned. A lot of people are into this game either for the story or the porn, not the puzzles. As someone who likes challenge, this actually pushes me in the opposite direction, wanting to give him more. That said, at the moment, the only reason I'm not is because I can't.

If this turns out to be the hardest puzzle in the game so far, I will be ecstatic. "There Is Nothing" was only really a matter of paying attention in previous events, so it was rather easy when I wasn't being an idiot who failed to write things down. Also, depending on how this puzzle is, I mean in terms of whether it is just answers from previous events again, I may very well have the answers in my notes...at least as long as Sensei's shirt material doesn't come up, that was an honest mistake, I should have written that down. Again, there was a big neon sign pointing at it and I had major alarm bells going off in my head, yet I didn't write it down.

I'm imagining a puzzle where they ask "in the fifth Ami scene (chronological order), was she holding up her LEFT hand or her RIGHT hand?" and if you answer wrong you have to answer all of the previous questions again, like with the terminal# ->IPv6 address -> Username -> Password thing.
I could see it and I approve, please do something like this Selebus (not kidding, hence the lack of tongue out emoji).

It is There is Nothing on crack, but the game doesn't tell you what scene the solution is in, so you're probably going to need to replay multiple scenes to find the answer.

That's cool. Under normal circumstances I'd have no problems doing it, but with me playing through the full game again once the rework is out, it just doesn't seem like something I want to be doing twice. And I WILL need to do it twice, because my memory is absolute garbage and I will forget the answers between now and then.
Oh, that's promising, now if the game would download just a tiny bit faster. I agree on your replay, not worth doing at the moment, I would also wait. That said, I am not planning the same thing until either the game is complete, when I am definitely doing an end to end run, or when I inevitably screw up and my no tolerance policy for missed events kicks in and forces me to start over.

I mean, it's an update right before a long hiatus for the rework. Maybe you don't need to blow through the puzzle in half an hour? It took me a few hours, with a couple of breaks, but I got it -- I felt like one of them was kind of bullshit, but whatever, and some of them I really liked. And almost all of them are able to be brute-forced, if you just can't find the place where the clue was given.

There's no harm in taking your time.
True, we are going to have a LONG time to figure this out.

If you really have problems with the puzzles, just look into the game files. They aren't written in a different language or anything.
You might have just given Selebus an idea. While he does try to distance himself, he does occasionally pop in here. Hey, as long as it is in German, I have a shot.

Well, I was writing down anything that even remotely suspicious for a while now, like, random lottery number and number of stars, just for that kind of shit. Wonder if it will help me when I get my hands on the update though xD
Or its an actual puzzle? Like, real puzzle? Not this random thing?
Probably a puzzle revolving around previous events and information they gave, but with the replay function, we don't have to start again just to find the answers.

This puzzle everyone is talking about is clearly what the dev was worried about with the warning about subscriptions. I still look forward to the update, personally, but I get why they frustrate many people.
Yes, because it is a puzzle in what many perceive as a porn game. A lot of players of porn games like to have their content hassle free, which is why we get all the games with subpar writing that focus on the porn aspect and actually earned their title as porn games. There's nothing wrong with that mentality, but people like that simply won't find enjoyment in games where you actually have to work for the porn.

Hero!

Though if this puzzle is a sign of things to come I suspect the rework and subsequent chapter 3 will probably have more shit like this.
It might, nobody knows but Selebus.

Expect something like this every time there's a reset.
Basically, yeah. This seems to be following a pattern established with the first puzzle. Every reset will have one if the pattern is true and there is no way this will be the last reset.

Interesting update. I was a bit more worried considering the "refund" message. Wonder what the next non-rework update will bring
There won't be a non-rework update, if I got the schedule correct, this is the last update before the game goes into a hiatus period while Selebus reworks the beginning.

No shit he probably gets a few subs from impatient people when it doesn't get posted immediately. But he never would have gotten anything close to his current user base without sites like this. He wants the benefits of piracy without the downsides, and that's not really how things work.

Hopefully the disaster of the puzzle situation in this latest update causes him to lose enough subscribers to rethink things. Games shouldn't be a chore to play.

He's actually 100% against piracy, no good sides, no bad sides, he's against all of it because piracy provides one thing, a droop in patrons every time it happens wheras the few times it didn't were the strongest releases in the history of the game in terms of new patrons.

The puzzle won't cause anything of the sort, in fact, I am already considering upping my patronage again, though it will have to wait a little bit, and several others have already voiced their approval as well. Those who don't like the puzzles simply found the wrong game, not Selebus's fault, not the players' either, it happens.

This game isn't a chore for anyone who is actually reading the story and is writing things down, the only reason "There Is Nothing" took me three hours was because I failed to write down answers that were actually provided in several previous events.

Sure, tell yourself that. That's why he posted the game on a pirate website. Again, he never would have gotten to $12k subscribers if it weren't for sites like this giving it publicity. He's even noted that the mass of high rated reviews on this game on this site has helped his sales and asked people on discord to put 5 star reviews on here.

Games should absolutely be a chore to play.

Need more games like pathologic 1 or 2 out there.
I couldn't agree more, those were pretty good.

He posts the FREE version, which is not pirated, you can't pirate free stuff, that goes against the definition of piracy. He has never once posted the patron version of the game here, that was done entirely by the F95 uploaders and he has been against it every single time it happened. Yes, he actually would have gotten where he is now, it would have taken him longer to get there, but the game is good enough to stand without piracy. Yeah, REVIEWS, not downloads, reviews aren't piracy.

Even I, a patron with legitimate access to the game's patron versions, have reviewed it here. It has been reviewed on several websites, actually, including VNDB.

You know I was actually on your side with whole "I don't care what the creator thinks I'll interact with art however I please!" thing you were doing earlier, but I don't understand how you can think that and switch to wishing his ruin because you didn't like a part of what he made and then trying to dictate the "Proper Way" to make a game.

I'm starting to believe that you actually care *too much* about what he thinks. Just bypass everything like you said you would instead of coming in here and complaining about it.
I, at least, would not fault you for that, even if I think you get more value from meeting art on it's own terms.
