I do wonder why the roof is special though. If lamb legs is to be believed, it could be that Akira told Maya that day that his blackouts (not supernatural) had started again, which leads him to jumping, and she somehow contracts with a god to link them to the wishing well.
I'd be willing to bet that this will be explained. The goddess that is mentioned is associated with cursing people. It most likely has to do with the scars, otherwise it would be weird for Selebus to drag an unknown and specific deity of the real world for no reason.

Tbh i think the fact that the rooftop is special is a fact.Since think about it like this.In the prologue we jumped of a room,the world resets on the roof,everyone thats been on the roof has had their "leash" loosened.The rooftop is important for some reason that we dont know yet.

It's probably more of a "early LiL rework" kind of rewrite, since he wrote NiB before he'd even started on LiL and his writing's come a long way, but anything more than the broad strokes is likely subject to change.
