I have played the shit out of this game for the last several updates and I am just confused. Perhaps you can guide me.
It seems to me that no matter what path I choose, Ari cheats. If I choose the vanilla path, she is an absolute nightmare. And it turns into one of the other paths even if you choose NOT to. What am I doing wrong?
I have read the whole thread and focused on the developer's explanations of the game and the paths, including the excellent summary posted in his post HERE.
I considered the possibility that maybe the vanilla path was tied back into the NTR paths because it is not completed yet. I am starting to think that the game is working as intended. All paths lead to Ari cheating because that is who she is. She lies more on the hard NTR path but feels guilty. She lies more, confesses, and then continues to lie and cheat while feeling less guilt on the vanilla path because the pseudo-MC absolves her of that guilt. While she "loves" him, she doesn't care for him, nor respect him.
I doubt that this will be a likely outcome considering this game is really for the hardcore NTR fellas, but at this point, I would trust Mallory more than Ari. Mallory seems to legitimately care for how he feels and worries that he will be hurt by Ari's continued typical behavior. The dude should ditch Ari and just fuck Mallory because they are obviously "compatible." But that is obviously not what this story is about.
So, bottom line, is it working as intended? Am I choosing something incorrectly? Or is the vanilla path not complete? Is there some other explanation?

I'm pretty sure Ari cheats no matter what it's the basis for the whole story.
Talking about the vanilla path:
If you choose the right options, you will always be on the vanilla path... (I should change it to romance path). It is impossible for you to get lost since all the option says something like "(Vanilla route)" or "(Stay on the vanilla route)" and that's it... Ariana never cheats on the vanilla route... Never
Now, it is true that this game has its main focus on the Sharing and NTR paths... I made the vanilla route just to show that there can be a "happy" ending to their relationship, where they end up together, loving each other for what they are. Ariana (in general) is super jealous, but we see this more on the vanilla route than in any other route... The thing is that, MC likes this behaviour

Considering everything that has happened on all the paths so far, and all of the other stories this dev has written, I am pretty confident she cheats no matter what.
I saw a post where someone argued that the MC is Ariana. The pseudo-MC is just there to add flavor to the NTR vs NTS. That is a rather astute and accurate observation.
I just needed a little confirmation that I hadn't somehow screwed up my game and was getting an odd result on the "vanilla" path. The game is hot regardless. Even when I want to pussy punch Ariana and choose ANY of the other women for the poor dude, the game is still hot.

It's one of my favourite games with NTS. It takes a while, but the MC is starting to understand his desires and stuff on that path and its well written imo.

It pretty much seems like you catched all of what I intended to show with Let the Nightshine in, with the characters of Let the Nightshine in... I always said that there is no "truth" about a character behaviour... Like, if you want to think that Ariana is just a slut who does everything wrong, that's fine... But, my interpretation about this character was deeper than that, really... And you explained it very, very well in your review, and you pretty much explained also very well how other characters in the game behaves... I can pretty much say that we have kind of the same vision on all of this, and I am happy about that. There has been people that agrees with my vision about certain characters and people who like the game, and I really appreciate when this happens because it makes me feel I did something good when following what I wanted to do

Like Sieg said people have different views about Ari. I personally consider her a kind woman who tries to understand his fetish and occasionally makes mistakes as she learns.

I would love to love her. But all I can say is she is a lying, cheating slut who uses her boyfriend's love and naivety to feed her own perversion of his kink. She seems to legitimately want to be in a relationship with the boyfriend, but not be honest about her desires or her actions and does not want to stop any of her harmful behaviors. She has plenty of opportunities to come clean or do the right thing and only does so when it benefits her. None of the women are without some severe faults in this game. Mallory does show a moment of kindness and respect when she feels she needs to tell the 'MC' the truth, but what was her motive?
I wonder what will happen in the future. Will the ex-girlfriend clear up what really happened with Tyrone? Does it matter? Will Mallory push Ariana to be a good girl or coax her into worse situations? Will any of the new women in the MC's life have a chance or are they just fodder? Will the MC hold Ari accountable or will he continue to keep his head in the sand?
