once you upgrade your house (was too small), an option to buy ring appear. Ring is categorize as a tool, so use the tool cycle to cycle to it and proceed.

What would happen if you use it in your inventory? If it any other rpg, that would mean you use/consume it yourself. You have to gift it to the girl.

No, you can't use it yourself and romance the fisher/lumberjack
