I agree. In my mind it wasn't stealing if I just traced it in a different software (which it is, if it's done this mindlessly). People make it out like I just copy pasted the image into my own game, when in fact I've spent days working on the images, writing shaders and extensions to make them look better, created original clothes, poses and facial expressions as I got better at it. It got me defensive when I should have expected it.

After all this talk of my developer's notes I refuse to believe that you're not trolling.
Lily's bizarre adventure
trollings bizzare adventure?

I don't care so much to use the same char, after all we often see games made by devs and amateurs based on anime, but I don't like that it's the same, it smells a lot of thievery, after all it's an original game made by a dev.
speaking of the game, I can't get out of the first room, does it end like this?
Did you check the quests?

PontiffPomelo Dont let people get on you, people will always bitch about everything, thats why the new generation of people is called "the crystal generation", so here are my two cents:

If something doesnt have copyright is not stealing if you create something similar. You even created the character for scratch so its not using any assets from the other work. So its LEGAL (At least in my country works like that).

As for the people, accusing someone to be a thief while being part of a forum that gives you links to pirate games... thats how it is this days... (and just to be clear I love pirate games but hate people double morals).

The more H games that we have the better for all the users in here, and remember, when using "anime style" characters will look similar.

Hey
PontiffPomelo

I haven't seen enough of the original content to determine copy or inspiration.
I have no idea how long it took you to do this

I am not a big fan of RPGs
I dont have enough experience or knowledge to criticize you
I am a simple user.

I have only seen your work and although there are many things to perfect, you dared to create your own version that partly shows the love you have for the genre and the art you wanted to share (The hate its Everywhere if u do something or if u dont do it )
People like you inspire me to create my own content in the future

Don't back down or give up
You're doing great

Pd:My native language its spanish, really sorry if my english is bad

Thank you both for your encouraging words. It means much to me. Getting the project this far took a lot of work. Recreating all those features RpgMaker would give you for free from scratch and making them work with timetravel almost had me give up at some points. I rushed the release and botched it in my haste, but I've also never exceeded 40 unique views on any of my games, so hey, upsides :)
Thanks again! I won't give up.

Actually copyright applies by default to anything creatively made, that is original, so purely legal I geuss it would be stealing(don't know much about the work it is based on, so can't say for sure), but as you did say as well, this is a freaking pirate forum so noone here should really care

I agree with does above in encouraging you to ignore the whiners and just continue making your game. You said your peace, you said its placeholder, with that people should accept it and carry on. Dont let trolls or negative comments discourage you! (y) ;)

This mighy be a pirate site, but there is still Honor among thieves - fucking over a fellow dev is generally frowned upon.
Tracing is one of the worst sins in the art community, hence the vocal reactions in the first posts.

It might took a long time to do, but inefficient stealing is still stealing - but honestly though, as long as you don't take credit for (or destroy) someone else's work, it's more like borrowing anyway. There was a notice about it in the DevNotes after all. With the project files being opensource you have already given back more value than you 'stole', so you are in the green in my book. Kudos for working in blender and godot.

Good luck with the the project and don't let the literally challenged discourage you from working on it.

Apples to watermelon.

"You're fine with not paying for porn games, why would you care if someone stole all of their art work to make their game?" just doesn't make sense, and for some reason a whole bunch of you keep making that point.

More like red apples, and green apples, essentially the same thing (stealing content) just in different flavors

A lot of people can't draw for example I use a lot of different references and portions of artwork from different artist just to edit a picture, but yeah I'd never call it my own, only my own version of the artwork I modified, if you cant draw from scratch like me I guess its fine but even I don't want to keep doing this.

If this is the amount of works it takes to "steal" nowadays, then yes, it's stolen ^^
Way too "inspired" by the original? Yes, absolutely. Stolen, no. I even acknowledged the fact in the dev notes. I just didn't remember where the original was from.

EDIT : Having calmed down a bit now, let's be real here. At no point in time was a single pixel from the original work copied into mine. At the same time I started this entire project with the face, and 0 experience in 2d design. I literally traced large parts of the head, only feeling confident enough to try it freely when I got to the body. In retrospect, I consider that stealing, and I am fixing it at this moment. I still want to keep the same style, particularly the eyes and nose, but I'll redo it without tracing, and will try to use all the insights I gained while tracing to create something similar, but original.
I appreciate the detailed reply and willingness to change your plans. It sounds like you'll be even better off with what you've learned. Good luck with Rev 2!

Boooo trolls and nazis, get the F out of my internet! Seek counseling, you need it.

Enough with this BS, trying to read some useful info about the game as there's no pics and I get bombed with this intellectual property mumbo jumbo as if WIPO had infiltrated here.

Internet is full of garbage, you search something and you get countless results that have nothing to do with your search. Here, full of garbage comments from people with various complexes that think are fine. Booooo and enough!
