Oh, another technique that tons of 2D games with high fidelity art use is spine/bone based animation. It's just like the 3D version where you weight your 2D art to bones, and then animate the bones to move the characters instead of say, drawing frame by frame animation.

This particular game uses that type of bone technology, but a lot of the characters and art are still delivered in very high resolutions which still may tax a gpu.

I hope I didn't ask too much:

I suppose it wouldn't hurt that much to focus this game on performance first and content at a later date. From what I'm seeing, this could be one big turn-off to some people. Also, I suggest to the team to let people know the rough estimate of the minimum requirements to run the game, that'd be something I appreciate.

Wouldn't want to set my house on fire just because I wanted to play a "Legend of Krystal" porn game, which that statement in and of itself is questionable if brought up.

So I have brought this up already and explained some of the pros and advantages to creating content with certain resolutions and maintaining certain sizes for what's on screen. A pixel won't get more detailed once it is at maximum screen size for your target resolution. :)

Profiling will likely come later, possibly if there are more reports of user problems. There are advantages to not worrying about problems until there is a problem to deal with, also.

So my suggestion is that if you have performance issues, tell the team about it so it can be logged and analyzed. I have a laptop myself and so far it's ran just fine. It's not a super amazing gaming laptop or anything either.

I'm betting on shadowing instead. Because it doesn't matter much if the full extent of a GPU card memory is used or not (before paging to disk). And you'd still be able to fix that with LODs.

Also, I know for a fact these models are extremely light on the rigging department. I disagreed with them on the convenience of that, but they sure should run faster than mine.

So, I'm betting on the render pipeline taxing older PCs with those scene lighting and shadowing in real time. If there's an option to disable them without making the game look horrible, I'd go with that.
Anything is possible. Screen effects can be costly. I'm honestly not sure what the performance is for unity 2D lighting, but from what I've played with I haven't noticed any differences between just ambient light and 100 lights in a scene.

It all comes down to user computers though... I don't know what kind of NASA or TI-84 computers people are trying to run it on. User feedback is helpful. :)

Wouldn't it be better if the issue addressed as soon as possible? If you decided that it is best to leave the problem until everyone had the same problem collectively, so be it. I won't pry any further.

I suppose letting you guys know about the problem the individual in the previous post was too much as I am not currently subscribing to your Patreon page nor have any access to the current build.

It's very good and everything, but in my opinion they should also work on 2d acts with the models that supposedly are already by this point fully articulated and ready to create content and for which, it was the delay for 2 or 3 years to see content and progress.

Since for everything to be animations, it would have been better that everything had been done in pixel art so that we could work quickly and not take so long or, in the original 2d style that v0.8 had.

Wasn't the reason they are doing these CG scenes is because It's suppose to be easier/faster to do? It looks to me, like they are a lot of work to do. It makes me think how much harder doing the 2d acts with the models in game would be.

But I do share the same sentiment. It's been a while since i saw the post, but I think once they get the ball rolling they might do animations with the in game models.

It was about time to see smooth animations. It has taken them a year or two to realize that we said that the previous ones looked like playmobil moving, but they will never accept that we were right about many things.

Why you no check discord, this was public back in August too ^ it's also in the latest published build!
We're also of course using the side rigs etc for other hot stuff, in fact another animator is working on the shower ones this week.
You'd knew it if you checked it/our blog/or the streams every once in a while ;)

If you're checking the game, please have a look at the memories section. (you'll find these there since it's not in the game storyline yet!)
These CGs are so much fun to make, hopefully you'll also like them :D

In choplander's defense, a lot of the images being made (not yet released) are locked behind a patreon or subscibestar.

That doesn't mean I don't like what I see. I'm thoroughly enjoying this. I just wish there was more access to the unfinished works, but I understand there needs to be a line for Patreon and Subscibestar users to have something worth while.

Let’s be honest though, there was only 1 update post for the patrons throughout the month of January. So it’s fair to say a better balance still needs to be found. (which has been the reason I have nothing to show you here)

But I will agree that if you’re looking to be up to date on the work being done, the streams are the best place to be. Of course that assumes you have the free time available.

All the scenes in game are locked behind completing and failing the tanning minigame (talk to Vanlen at the Forge). But they are unlocked in the memories section. Also you get to see the 2 CG scenes already done that are not implemented within the game.

I do try to catch the streams on my phone, but the Picarto app is pretty wonky at best. It keeps disableing my notifications, and if I am notified, the stream is almost over. Sometimes chat doesn't show up and to fix that, I need to uninstall the app/reinstall (clearing the cache, data, and restarting doesn't help)
But all that is not on you guys. That's strictly a Picarto problem. If I do catch a stream, I generally have to catch it manually by browsing the discord (computer,) which is not ideal.

*sigh* Maybe if I get discord on my phone I can get proper notifications. Phone streams fast, good data on that device. computer? Not so much.

Some of these teasers looks too dull when comes to movement and motion on both chars pace :/

the only good is the artstyle but other than that the whole thing looks unfitting lots of stuff to improve if the animations have to be decent at least
