To add to your point, I think what's going on is that characters who experience relatable (bad) things invite a stronger emotional response than characters who are victims of fantastical plots. So what it comes down to is how relatable or realistic someone finds the behavior. For me, NTR, rando gangbangs, etc are on the same level as "hey, step bro, you're in the shower so let's bang", it's too silly for me to take seriously or feel emotionally connected to.
