I don't know what happened to this guy, maybe he is lying as many others, maybe not. However the problem is that this game is not an exception. Patreon is not a stable environment for such kind of games and last year because they forced some new rules the things became worse with so many delays and abandoned games. Unfortunately there isn't any alternative site...
The problem is that for many hobby devs the patreon model that it turned out in that is delivering updates for support, instead of people supporting the development of a game is not healthy for more hobbyist developers or developers that can not go full professional, see also Phillys post above. Unfortunately this especially hits some of the most talented developpers like Veq the most, since they may be great artists, but not great businesmen or project managers or other skills that are very usefull forthis model aside from being able to make a great game.

Well shit... guess I'll wank to regular porn while Veq gets his life back together. Oh woe is me ;)
O wait @Philly_Games hasn't been broken down by RL issues and horny, over demanding perverts on the internet.

if he has serious mental problems then i wish him all the best.

But apparently a lot of devs these days that are creating VN through already given assets have such a hard time. i think most of the time its bullshit .

countless of times people used terms like „depression“ or „my mental health“ just to evade responsibility (not only in this industry).

lets see the numbers. 3.500$/a month is a shit ton of money here in austria if you havent studied anything . i have one friend that studies engineering. engeneering is damn hard and after 8 semesters of hard work the entry salary is 3-4,5k a month.you wanna talk about hard work and mental problems in their field? No . Because its just the way it is. its hard but 4k a month is good money that keeps you going.

A lot of devs that creating VN are using assets from designers and artists . Veq is one of them.

And his behaviour is pretty fucked up.

He said in January that the update is nearly here . But now apparently he hasnt even finished the recent update .

So lets get the numbers straight . In 6 months he received 21.000$ . the last update was in october 2018. Now he has apparently a hard time which give him another 1-2 months where he can postpone the next release. so 27.000$ for one release after 8 months. seems like a good deal for him.

but my problem is.

this behaviour is giving other people the motivation to start becoming a vn artist just for the sake of easy money . create a crap story , reuse the same character that everybody else is using but this time with an other hair style and BOOOM.

And we are the guys that support them. we can decide how this industry is going to look like in the future. if we keep supporting people that milk their fans just for the sake of money then the quality of the games is going to be horrible.

even tho we are all some horny bastards that want to wank from time to time, we need to take resposibility on this topic. support the ones that are putting in the work . and this is how the indusry going to evolve positively.

There might be slivers of truth in what you're saying, but at least half of your observations feel unfounded.

The money aspect and time it takes for each update to release is one thing. It's certainly not ideal for anyone, Veq included. He's not overly proud for the prolonged hiatus between each chapter, and has acknowledged that fact time and again. How many times has he said "I know I'm slow.... I'm trying to work on it." As a patron, however, I feel that's more so on us than him. I guess we're the crazy ones for donating our money, but we do so under our own volition, so I'll just leave it at that.

Does this behavior propagate other new "Devs" to jump on the bandwagon and try to make a quick buck? Potentially. But to lob Veq in with such scam artists is beyond ludicrous. Associating LaS with having a "crap story" reveals how little you have to stand on. The story is clearly one of the biggest driving forces that was keeping this ship afloat, and sadly, considering there was very little adult content to speak of to this point only further strengthens this stance.

And saying that Veq was reusing "the same character that everybody else was using...." is another claim that has me scratching my head. You know why there isn't an LaS fanart thread for the girls? Because they are so heavily customized nobody can mimic the recipe to duplicate them. The time and effort was put into their creation, clearly. Likewise for half the environments - the Dale's home, the Baron's, parts of the hospital, and so on. All hand-crafted by Veq himself, and I have to say it was very refreshing. Furthermore, as the game grew in size, more and more original settings were planned.

This isn't meant as an attack against you and your opinions, but I do think you should reevaluate how you phrase things because as of this moment a lot of it comes off as just silly.

And btw, last update was 2 mins of gameplay...
Great observation, but also took longer then previous versions to released state. but the real problem with is the ending of each episode ends in a major clifhanger, previous one was ended when the sister was shot i am sure many would feel pretty bumped if that was final update because then you would never know what happened next if the sister was alright etc..

yeah my bad.

he is a good artist and i do not doubt that but once again its how he markets his game or his overall communication skills what makes this situation bad . this is what makes me furious. so much potential but once again wasted because he cant properly communicate. same thing with aorrta. great artist , horrible communication.

he would be one of the greatest artists on the platform if he wouldnt make one horrible mistake. and that is to make a promise and not deliver. he done it multiple times and even back then when i supported him.

always follow one simple rule from Steve-O. underpromise and overdeliver.

I think he's just generalizes and describes trend in the industry. If he was played LaS, than he knows it's actually a good game.

From what i remember, he's poor at coding also. He just wants to make a game which surpass his skills. Maybe he could handle it with a coder.

Patreon is not for business and neither is this site. If any were, most would not be here.

Artists live by art - there is no two ways about it. One can set up patreon for pretty much anything.

As so many others have demonstrated, breaking up games into episodes dedicated to certain characters gets string off of the whole process. Just look at diablo or war/star craft. They had enough of solid games and take long hiatus by providing support and cosmetics to games already released. If a part time hobby game maker gets depressed, what are full time programmers supposed to have for a life?!?!

Usual programmers DO NOT HAVE BEAUTIFUL RENDERS TO BRIGHTEN THEIR DAY.
Usual programmers WORK ON SOFTWARE MOST OF US NEVER SEE OR USE (in banks, nasa, oracle, windows, ubuntu, governments). Those are not games and certainly not entertaining, yet most programmers get that as a job!

By definition, a hobby does not get anybody down. A hobby lifts them up.

Lift off everybody! Go dream, go fly, go reach those stars!

Saw it coming a mile away:

>Lack of communication
>Irregular updates
>Updates getting shorter while taking longer to make

I had high hopes for this game but when you get about 2 updates a year and almost no communication regarding game developments and updates, it was only a matter of time before the on-hold sticker appeared. He said he doesn't expect people to keep supporting him but if he was truthful about that, he would pause the payments on the project since that's where the patreons money goes to. I wish him the best but he shouldn't profit off something people pay for but don't get.

You say that as if patrons are held hostage to keep their payments up. But we are not. We are in full control whether we want to keep up our subscriptions or not, and I will continue to donate until I feel otherwise.

the game dev needs to hire professional help, maybe a writer and he could make this a full time job.... then he would've gained the time to make his life a little better... its very dangerous how hes going about "trying to work on himself" without an income and without ppl close to him, i do wish him well tho..:cry:

Saw it coming while waiting longer and longer for new info about the release and the lack of communication from the dev. Sad to see that another project that surely is one of my personal favorites is coming to a standstill, though understandable. Personal health and a stable life situation has to be a priority above else, just wished that Veq would have rang the bell earlier to inform his patrons and other people about his situation.

@veqvil , keep your head up buddy, sort your shit out no matter how long it takes and once you are back on that steady line we obviously hope to see you return to work on your fantastic project.
