Did you try the new version? Didn't work for me in 5.0 as well but in 5.1 I was able to unlock and finish every event.

You're right, this game is a black hole in term of time invested, i played it twice on earlier version and there wasn't much content but peeping.
I'm saving it from when i don't have anything else to play and time to kill (next winter ? )
