As far as I can tell, no one here has any real insight into what is going on beyond a couple of public statements by the developer and a very short twitter exchange with the artist.

If you pour money into any patreon project, expecting a simple customer-vendor-relationship or an employer-employee one, you're doing it wrong. If you see something you'd like to support, do so if you can afford to, and if it doesn't seem to live up to expectations, whatever they may be, just pull your funding. You're allowed to ask questions and voice criticism or disappointment, obviously, but pestering the recipient(s) with hate speech and accusations is just toxic entitled behaviour. Especially when they are as speculative as here.

Um, guys. GUYS. You keep blaming Javier for everything cuz it feels good to rage but can we focus on this for a moment? The art for chapter 5 has been ready since November. It is February. Doesn't something feel off? Like maybe, just maybe, Javier is not the problem here?

But hasn't it been said that she can't use that art because of the compensation issue?

I think it's clear that they have argued over the money. That's why other developers work alone and don't hire anyone even when they have the money for it.
Not the first time this happens and it wouldn't be the last.

They could make a contract that everything belongs to the dev once put in game, like the big studios would. That way someone handling the art couldn't pull that. Still, how long has she had the art for the next release but still no update? It's going to be forever until the one after having to redo up through. Hopefully the old saves still work for it. Would NOT want to start from scratch.

What she said was that she's gonna remove Javier's art because she has to pay him for the art as long as she profits off of it and he's not gonna make any more art for her. But since she's already commissioned and paid for the art for chapter 5, she'll be releasing it before re-working the game with the new art.

Better will be, if she instantly delete whole Javier's art and push out redone C1 with new one, instead of C5 with old one. And after that new C2,3,4 and 5. Didn't she stated that new art for C1 is done, so where is problem?

Hey guys!

As you have asked in the poll, here is another redesign of a female character, in this case Lei Hudson.
Although the character is made from scratch, together with the new artist we decided to keep Lei's most characteristic features. Still, after looking at all the proto-Lei (I'm sure the post on Lei's art process will be one of the longest, along with Sophie's) we decided to represent her with more Korean-like features than the typical Chinese.

Lei is one of the most beloved characters in LC, I hope this new look of the character will continue to give you the high class bitch vibe in game.

you people are here debating about javier as he is main bad guy. but in this case it is her. sure he has part of guilt, but main problem is red lolly. she knew javier's issues from day one. you don't go in busniess of porn vns with person that has issues with such content same way like you are not going into fur business with peta activist hoping you'll change him during time.

for patrons this game is like you are sitting on back seat of taxi (which is not moving) where two drivers are debating about route while taximeter is running at max. now according to javier, one driver left the car, return map, car keys and clearly said: she has full control of vehicle.

that lead us to this: it is now all her fault. she did not delivered ch5 as promised months ago (after breakup), she is moving into redesign from ch1 without any terms or commitment. meanwhile taximeter is cllicking every damn day and month. no matter of her issues only decent thing she failed to do was either pause milking or change charging from monthly into charge per major update. she didn't do that. note that eva kiss didn't manage to move on with new chapter for 3 months since she was doing some redesigning of old content and took some pause to relax. but she put her patrons' payments on pause. red dolly has ch5 since october and nothing.

with all respect for her eventual health issues (if exists) she should behave more decent and honest. her behaviour is pushing her into milking business devs category. pitty, i was seriously thinking to support her work (like i'm supporting eva) but her attitude from update to update made me wait. and this fallout proved it was good decision. now she can only expect from me one term payment when/if she finished her work. and would be wise that patrons put her payments on pause at least until we see new ch1 revamp. that pressure might push her to do more. however do what you want. your money, her fun

I like the new Lei and her wider eyebrows and lips., she is hot. Having a darker skin tone, she seems more Thai or Indonesian to me than Korean.

Patrons have full control over whether the meter keeps clicking or not. Their choice, not the devs.

I like reading artists' in depth explanation and notes on redesigning/tweaking looks of their characters. It's the first I've heard it's specified what Asian descent Lei is; or in this case, revised into. I like the idea of giving Lei Korean-like features with how her eyebrows are thicker and shaped along with her lips. From just her normal expression, I can tell she definitely has that "Queen B" vibes, yet something also sensual too. I'm very curious how the scenes between her and Alice will be written because I can imagine this version of Lei "having her fun".

Sorry for insisting on these aspects. But I also work as a content creator and I'm very sensitive about copyright issues (although I'm in a pirate forum... it's one thing to know the law and another to follow it, hehehe, but, of course, I don't consider that it is "a right" to pirate content, I am aware that it is wrong)
You are basically accusing Javier of simply enforcing his rights. Certainly he could have kindly given away all the content he created without asking for anything in return, but hey, almost all of us like to get paid for our work, right?. Both options - giving away his work or asking for money in exchange for it - are perfectly respectable, I think.

In fact, I'm only in this forum because I really like Javier's art, I've known his work since I discovered it on Deviantart several years ago.
I confess that I was unaware of this type of video game (erotic visual-novels) until Javier announced that he was working on one. Talking to a friend about this, he told me about this forum where you can see game updates for free (pirate)
So yes, I may not be totally objective with Javier, because I've played this game and I'm here only because I'm interested in his work (and, ok, watching the Instagram of his partner Joanna was an extra motivaiton )
Regarding the new art, well, I really like it, I was expecting something worse, but it's not the art that moved me to play this game, so it's going to be hard for me to "accept" it. Anyway, I think that if they keep the level of the current redesigns, it could be a game with a very good level of art....I'm still here because, despite the fact that Javier is no longer working on it, I'm very curious to see the new version.

I agree with you its completely the patrons choice, but recently eva paused the fees cause she wasn't able to deliver on time and the guys at kamo(ttrick) paused the fees for months while they were sorting out their issues. I think its just a nice gesture to show the patrons that they are not being taken for granted

I'm not feigning ignorance of contract law or copyright issues with my argument. They definitely did not have their respective lawyers go through their paperwork as the project was imo informally/casually planned. If so, there would have been proper contract validity tenures, renewal terms, dissolution clauses.

I'm assuming since the dev, Joanna didn't want to be shelling money out of her own pocket for Javier, they agreed to some sort of partnership. The entire deal clung onto the fact that Javier would not have "issues" moving forward.

In this case, the dissolution clause would have worked in a way such that if Javier (or Joanna) decides to terminate the partnership prematurely, they would ideally have to forfeit their share granted that the income they've received was over $xxxx. Why? Because the project faces sufficient downtime and a very long pause in the process of accomodating for a new developer/designer.

I'm not taking the dev's side either but in this case, its clearly Javier in the wrong. The downtime (due to this whole fiasco), extra expenses (I assume Javier is still being paid a % of earnings for the work on C5), and the fact that Joanna now has to pay a second designer out of her share to re-design the entire game all sums down to one thing - Javier terminating the contract prematurely and using his share as a bargaining chip to ask for royalties of a project he willingly chose to leave, knowing that it would cause serious downtime issues for the project (and revenue issues, you can just look at the drop in patrons due to the inactivity).

So yeah, not going to explain further but you can thank Javier for the fact that this project's last update was half a year ago. By this time, C6 would have been released and C7 would be in development.
