Exactly the same problem. I've built my character around melee and the game forces me to use a rifle against Sub-Guh'Nir. I have like half the damage and accuracy with the rifle than with bare fists. Grenades you get for free (and there's no place to buy them yet) are barely enough to get it to 200/300 hp. Had to overlevel and use about 80 red pills to beat it.
Then you get a Cunning check to beat a quest. There are two things wrong with it.
1. You had hours of gameplay without a single stat check and no indication that the game even has them.
2. There's no alternative way to beat the quest. You fail the check - you fail the quest. Fallout spoiled me here I guess. You can always talk/steal/fight (pick two or three) your way through any quest in Fallout 1/2/3/NV.

That's definitely a gameplay Design FLAW needs to be addressed (if it's not been talked to the dev already): if there's different builds exists, all builds need to be viable for progress / to solve the problem (thru different means). That's the way it means to be, not exclusive to fallout.
BUT, There's a possibility the dev intentionally designed this way, to incentive people to buy the cheat version - that's a common shaddy practice in modern gaming: Arbitrarily create a problem, then sell the solution.
Or you know... you can save edit it. I'd probably say it wasn't planned to have stat checks but dev decided to put them in for some reason later without thinking about player stat choices. Might get revamped later

What a weird mind-set. You can cheat / exploit / circumvent it doesn't make the flaw goes away.
If the dev really care about the gameplay, it NEEDs to be addressed / revamped.

OK why is Snake human? I was expecting him to at least have scales and a forked tongue...
Yeah that is weird. His old silhouette was humanoid-looking, but I assumed that was a placeholder and the final version would be... snakelike. He lives on a reptile planet, and the game is really short on alien content.

Can't say I'm too excited about this new companion fighting system.
I'd rather be the one doing the fucking, instead of watching my crew members fucking enemies or fucking each other and I don't really like sharing my toys most of the time either.
I do like the Dreamer (I'm assuming it will be like a sex scene gallery to replay one time sex scenes and make alternate choices) and the revamp to add sex scenes to old encounters (some encounters like Arihama are really missing victory sex scenes).

I'm actually curious, Has the Dev stated anything like "the game will be shifting focus to Human Contents"?
When LfA / LD changed the focus to main MxM (From Bi), The devs made it clear.
Or the dev no longer interested in makin' an unique game with a vision, solely let the money (Patreon) to lead the direction?
Can't blame if they do, it's their game.
It's a shame, Alien porn game is very rare.
