Dumb question, but is there ANY actual player agency in this? I really hate seeing 90% of the search queue being VN's that all amount to a glorified CG gallery with an audiodrama attached sometimes. I want to be able to pick a route and stick to it. Not any of the Yes/YES/oui/si illusion of choice bullshit that stopped being funny back in the late 2000's.
Not in the common route but you do pick a girl after that then follow her route.

This is the A series which pretty much is choose a girl at the beginning and you go through their route. It has new girl routes and after stories to S series girls
S has after stories to first game girls + common route which gives few new girls and their routes + I believe also has no girl route
The first game has several girl routes + no girl route which if I remember correctly has friend route branches with the boys

If I remember correctly both the first game and S start in kinda common route then branches off from that. When you pick a girl route you stay on that route until the end.

You should start with first game then proceed to S then any of the A series will do
S continues the story of the first game and A are small stories after S

What Zun said.

I didn't even notice this was the A series then....

A series is basically the epilogue to some of the main girls and also has extra routes for the girls that don't have them in the main 2 games.

You look like new in Japanese VN culture (or VN in general). Visual novel are just normal novel but with picture, voice acting, music, sound effect to help you visualize what you read better. If you're someone that REALLY hate reading, then I don't recommend it for you. If you're willing to give it a try, then go for it.

Some VN have little to no choice while others have a tons of choice branching path that make today "choose your own adventure" game look like a joke.

For havens sake...
Man... I just found that Majikoi series was finally translated after several years and I found "this."
The translation is so horrendouns to Unicorn Overlord level, to the point that over 70% of the original text is completely changed and even added an exagerated and unbelievable-unnecessary amount of words completely changing the true meaning of the characters...

I can't stand this... I'm sorry for y'll good people that took the effort and time to try bringing this game to the occident, but this is truly indigestible.

I didn't want to do this but I might have to do a "real" and proper translation to this series.

PD: An example below to the degree of misstranslation.
Takae: Ah... it's true. We need help promptly, a storm is comming.

Unfortunately I believe most of the A routes suffer the same translation problems. Maybe A+ will be better since it's a different translator. I wish TakaJun hadn't disappeared half way through Miyako's route, the translators after haven't been able to match him.

I read all the A routes before the translations, and while most of the time they're okay, sometimes it's just bad. One of the more grating for me were Lee and Stacy - it felt like most of Lee's jokes were changed (but not well, so they didn't fit the context of the scene) and half the lines Stacy audiably swore in she now didn't, and half the lines she didn't she now did. Maybe they TL'd from scripts without audio cues, but any playtest should have caught that. It's been a while so I don't know if they every went and did another pass when doing the later A games.

I'm glad they've made a translation, I just wish it were better (i.e. actually respecting the work they're translating). And for the A translators to give up on the A+ graduation route was frustrating, at least that's been picked up by a different group with a so-far consistent record.

If you do it, you'll be a true hero.

I've already begun re-translating the thing,
so don't worry guys, it won't take me 10 years to finish this.

Besides, I only have 2-3 years of life expectancy, so I'll have this finished by the end of the year... or at the beginning of 2025 give or take. It'll be my last gift to humanity.

Oh, and I'll start translating backwards: first A-5 then A-4, A3.... and so.
When I've finished a route I'll upload the texts for someone to make a patch (because I have no idea how to do that).

Lol I can't believe anyone actually thinks Momo is straight.

Imagine a conversation with a dude going like this: "Im not gay. I just hit on guys constantly. I constantly chat up hot dudes whenever I see them. I also ask them to go to places like hotels and anywhere else people go to fool around with me alone. I am always going on dates with guys. But im not gay" Not a single person in their right mind would take them at face value there.

That being said, I still dont think theres any reason to change translation lines. People deny their sexuality to other people all the time. I just find it wild that there might be anyone out there who takes Momo at face value when she said she was straight in the first Maji.

But still unfortunately there are other issues with this translation that im glad people are taking the time to rectify.

Takae Route is up.
If you happen find a typo or a grammar mistake of some sort please forgive me, sometimes my eyes get drowsy in the middle of the night.

Also, there are some tips for better understanding of the translation:
-Sometimes one will find some estrange choice of words from the characters, like apologizing instead of saying thanks, please keep in mind that this is due to cultural differences, people has different way of thinking in daily situations that we are used to do or say, and it'll lose some important meaning if translated.

-The suffix: (-san -kun -sama -chan) and many others, will be leave as they are, and in some cases with the entire word before will be kept as they are. Like "Onee-sama" for example, this is due to several puns that would lose important meaning or/and the character real intention will completely change if translated.
-The onomatopoeia will be left as they are, such as: (pero = lick; rero = lick; suu = suck; chu = kiss; etc.) this due to that the author of this titles really know to emphasize the reaction of the character through subtle changes in the onomatopoeia, and if it were to become translated the text will lose some important meaning. But sometimes you would find one or two onomatopoeia translated to have an idea of what the character is traying to say.
-There will be no censor about any homophobic or racist dialogue, this because that is the way the author of the series depicted the characters, and I have no intention to change the original image of author’s work.

If someone wants the word.docx just let me know and I’ll send it to ya.

Next, it’ll be Yoshitsune’s route.

It's not loading and just throwing up error messages after right click, locale emulator > Japanese (admin). Anyone else struggling to run it?

It seems you dont need to open with japanese locale, just click the exe multiple times in a row until it starts. The problem for me is that the font is a mess unlike the other Majikoi games where i can install that font, in this one it doesnt have one to install and it doesnt even show its name in the game options.

same here, i can't get it to work on windows 11
Hey guys, I use Win 11 too and I couldn't open my game, I used the locale emulator and tried to open A1, A2, etc. and none of them opened (and my antivirus is disabled), but I found out what was happening.

My game wouldn't open because when extracting the files, the names of some important files changed (the EXE files and some PAC files). What I did to fix it was very simple: I changed the region of my computer to Japan (which is the normal recommendation for playing visual novels), but I DELETED the game files (because they came with the wrong names), and EXTRACTED THEM AGAIN, but with my PC already in the Japanese region (so that the files would come with the correct names in Japanese), and then the files were extracted with the correct name, and it opened fine.

I even changed the region back to normal and used the locale emulator and it worked too (only A3 doesn't open with the locale emulator here, the rest open normally, maybe for A3 in particular to work, I had to change the region to Japan or it was because I moved the file, I don't know exactly what happened).

Anyway... this was interesting because it made me realize that it is necessary to change to the Japanese region from the beginning, in the installation part and even in the extraction part to avoid errors in these visual novels.
