While that is their official policy the truth is Patreon takes Paypal too....And that is also a Digital Good in their eyes...
You shouldn't look at it as MOVING AWAY from Patreon...
Look at it as INSURANCE should Patreon ever decide they want to move away from you again like they did to you already!
There is not reason why you can't take support from BOTH sites and expand your distribution capability.
If Patreon keeps on banning developers and forcing them to move to these other sites, it will make Patreon even less desirable to use as fewer people will be going there for this kind of content.
Well, Patreon managed to make a deal with them which, as far as I know, is pretty exclusive (which might have contributed to Patreon's success).
Well, of course I wouldn't drop Patreon straight away and move to the new platform.
However, slowly but steadily, Patrons (and new supporters) would move towards it.
But what if, after X months, they get shut down because they are violating, for instance PayPal's TOS?
That would be just as bad as the current situation with Patreon...
I understand that I should look at it as having an additional option, and I do.
But at the same time, I need it to be a stable and reliable.
@Faerin I don't know if works, but here there seems to be another alternative:
Thanks, I have seen this one too, but am a bit skeptical about it being a one-man-show.
But this is definitly one I'm keeping me eye on.
Just to clarify, I'm not trying to put down anyone's effort here, because there's probably no-one around here that is hoping for a good alternative, more than me!
It's just that I have a lot riding on this and take it really seriously (the whole Patreon business nearly gave me a heart attack)!
