Played it to the end and got the Good ending after doing as many sidequests as I could. While the combat system became a little repetitive by the end (at some point you just end up wanting to walk around the room without getting jumped by something that will at best die in three hits), I think it was overally really great and well written actually, would try to expound on my feelings more but I'll be honest I gave this thing three goes and my brain's a little frazzled at the moment, I need to drink something.

Overall though thanks for making this! Will recommend it to my friends.

Oh gosh, what a lot of posts.

Only a little ways in, but so far really impressed with the game. The number of options in combat was a little overwhelming at first, but I've been enjoying the strategic depth since getting used to what each option does. The writing is also a treat, and the self-aware AI theme is really interesting sci-fi.

Cool that this is a reusable engine, cause the core interface is solid as well.
Thrilled that you enjoyed it! The combat system is something I've added to and refined over iterations of the framework, so I'm glad it clicks!
This is a really good game. Only played for a couple of minutes and already love it

wow I loved flesh cavern. I even created a word document just to look at some very hot scene without the "gameplay" before and with pictures added for the immersion.
Hah, I'm still surprised people like it so much, but that's sweet. ♥

Definitely a valid issue with this game specifically, though I will point out that you have control over the Encounter Rate in the settings. Once you hit max level, you can always just turn it down to 0! I included those options with full intention of people using them as they desire. As for your question, answereda couple of posts above mine! But,

Great game, reminds me of CoC and TiTS. The NPCs are distinct and I had fun going through all of their dialogue options. The lore was interesting enough, with the different corpos and slang. The combat was simple and effective, though it did get repetitive so I turned down the random encounters.
-- As kabixe here did! I'm hoping that future projects with more varied locations (ie, not one big hostile 'superdungeon' will help alleviate that repetition, along with a greater variety of weaponry and classes. As for CoC and TiTS, my main goal with my games is to (hopefully) avoid their shadow by offering a different experience - set protagonists with much higher detail in scenes, afforded by not having to juggle quite so many customization variables. I've long since held that trying to outdo CoC and TiTS, especially as a solo dev, is putting ludicrous expecations on yourself.

So, by the description of Mio, she kinda looks like a Mega Man robot? Just with a curvy fleshy Torso/hip?
Whatever you draw from the description is how she looks! The joy of text games. But a gynoid torso flanked by aging, clunky metal limbs is the general vibe.
Me, playing Fenoxo games since FoE: Make it less than 2 hours
Heh. I did originally have a thing up there saying 'this will heavily depend on experience and reading speed', but that's apparently not valid info to include in a time estimate on this forum.
Mio is absolutely adorable, really sets the tone, and makes you care about the world. Probably my favorite gynoid now.
I am less sure about the "6-8 hours playtime" if you read the descriptions, do the side-quests, and engage with the crafting system, but maybe that's not a bad thing. I don't know when I'll have time to finish this, but take $20.

One tiny point of order, any chance to add -/+ or numbers to the accessibility options in addition to the slider? When I tried adjusting the font size, the slider's position would jump, making the slider bounce around which was frustrating.
That's very sweet, even before the donation. Thank you very much, and I'm glad you enjoyed the game that much! As for the accessibility options gaining extra control modes - that's a really good idea that I'd like to do, but it might take me a while to implement. Changing options in that specific menu is done through javascript, which I'm still very much learning.
a rare gem for text enjoyers, looking forward to your future works!

What Haillow said!
Do all the fantasize options open if you beat the game?, if not can someone post a save i think i missed a few and cant find em
They do not, no. I want to encourage people to explore everything, not just rush to the end.
Almost full save. Missed one environmental scene, since it's bugged. View attachment 2850501
Though using someone else's save is totally valid. As mentioned, one Environmental Scene (Trapmaw) is bugged if you dealt with that obstacle using Lift or Handiwork - it's fixed in the next version with a workaround to unlock if you step on the tile it was on, but I haven't uploaded that version yet. A flood of new players means more opportunities to uncover little bugs like this, so I'm holding off a little while until things calm down before posting 1.0.6. That said, there's a fairly major combat bug uncovered today that I'm pretty eager to push the fix for, so possibly today.

Thank you to all who've played MERCANOID. ♥

Well, that was pretty damned fantastic. About the only "complaint" I have is it would have been nice to spend some "quality" time with the rescuees, but that nitpick aside, it was a wonderful, well written romp with a clear amount of passion behind the drivers wheel.

Also surprised Mio and her trusty AI didn't end up together or get to knock boots at some point, but her all too brief adventure as a hero made me laugh.

Started playing, didn't bother with sleep until finishing exploring all the things. No regrets.

I'm glad it got its hooks into you that well!~

Regarding scenes with rescuees - absolutely would've been a good thing to include, but by this point I was desperate to move on from MERCANOID. I also hit an issue of... well, if I give her, her and her a scene, people are going to ask 'why do they get a scene but she, she and she doesn't?', so I'd have to have scenes for all of them, and-- argh. Perhaps someday, in a 1.1 update.

As for Mio and B4B3!... you might want to look a little harder~. One does exist, and it's the longest scene in the game, with first time and post-first variations.

Code:
The Travesty is suffering from bleeding, sustaining 193 damage!
I think bleed modifiers are messed up.

That's, uh, significantly higher than it's meant to cap out at, yeah. Whoops. I'll give that a look.

Hmm. There -was- a cap on how much damage the DoTs could do, but it seems to have gone missing. Might've lost it in a crash at some point way back when and just never realized. Added one in.

Summon Drones seems bugged?
Surprise moves are supposed to be a free action, but it isn't and while it says that it does 15 damage, I've seen it do anywhere from 6 to 24...

That definitely shouldn't be happening, but I did mess with that ability shortly before the 1.0 release to try and fix something. One moment.

... Hmm. It's an extremely simple attack that skips all damage calc and just sets player damage to 15, so it isn't engaging with enemy armour, toughness, etc. Let me test some things.

So, it's not acting as a Free Action, that's been fixed now - using it provides a link to return to the Player's combat menu, whilst successfully preventing further use of the move. As for the damage fluctuation!... I think, due to an oversight, it was ignoring that damage and instead using your last damaging attack's damage total again. Fixed. Thank you!

For the Corruption and Transformation tags, where do they show up (spoilers fine)? Is there any persistent content from losing outside of bad-ends? So far, it seems all the porn content are one-and-done scenes that could lead to bad ends, with nothing carried over. As in, it doesn't matter if Mio's lost 10 battles before or not as long as she doesn't suffer a bad end.

Corruption and Transformation are present as:

Also, while I'm here: The game has been updated to 1.0.6! (Thread's reported.) Both Downloads and the Online play methods are updated. Please let me know if I've horribly broken anything, I had a quick whiz around and things seemed fine. See the Changelog for the fairly large list of bugs fixed - thank you to all new players who reported something!

Ahhh. I was chewing health items and going heavy barrel on the baddies; I didn't think to check at repairing since I was topped off.

And yeah, the scene writing is absolutely a slippery slope. Though the silver lining there is that means that's a thristy intrest in the bulk of the supporting cast, which of course you wrote. So feel a bit smug and or flattered, I'd say.

Mio's 'Starslave' outfit does have some interactions! Such as Blankenship retorting if you inquire about her unusual fashion whilst dressed like that, ahah. But yes, there could always be more.

Just wanted to say that this was an absolute treat and I had a lot of fun with it. Thank you for giving us a complete game and not one that drip feeds content over a few years!

DrDerpington Saw your review. Thought it should be noted that the dev for Mercanoid made things rather unique here, in that you don't need to lose to any enemy whatsoever to unlock the bad end scenes. They get added to the fantasizing option when being repaired in the pod room.

They automatically unlock whenever you beat an enemy or get past an environmental problem.

You're welcome! While I do want to make larger projects - that will require incremental updates - I've long held that I wanted my (re)debut to be a decently big, completed game to make a splash with. That seems to be working! ♥

Thank you for pointing this out - given that the user in question left a high rating despite this, I didn't feel the need to correct them. But I was tempted, given that I explicitly don't want people to need to lose on purpose! Unless they're into that, of course~.

'Tis the way of things. I'm a solo dev, and MERCANOID is free - despite the time that's gone into it. My artistic abilities are limited to UI, some basic pixel art and edits of purchased pixel assets. The simple fact is that if the game had art, it may well have been better, but the one thing it wouldn't have been is free. Given the nature of this site, that's worth keeping in mind.

Yo Pyksies. I just downloaded the game from here, and have returned to announce that you are, in fact, a fake. After all, it clearly states in the game that the only way to download the game from the real you is via Newgrounds or Itch.io. Checkmate, you faker.
