"The check is in the mail" is what you say when you want to gain some time by making creditors go away temporarily. I believe this was an allusion to "He also told us the update was uploading", meaning he said he update was uploading to gain time, possibly to finish some unfinished portion.
EDIT: Well seems like someone explained already. XD

Glad you're feeling well enough to be posting, Nefastus! wishes for speedy recovery, and for a change in lifestyle to keep yourself healthy.
Glad to hear that the dev's feeling well enough to get their life back in order. Hopefully that means updates will come soon.
Definitely more coming soon. Being laid up for so long I realized that making games is actually when I feel the happiest, going to really give it a run now.
