They don't make 1080ti anymore (Check EVGA or MSI's product lists on their websites). People are paying inflated prices for the 1080ti for bridging compatibility, where the GPU has to match. You can't bridge a 1080ti with a 2080ti. If he's using multiple GPU bridges, then he might need 1080tis.It's not really double the price though. Not even close.

And if it was a 25% increase in performance like you say, that's still a big deal. Not exactly "minuscule".
Point still stands, I find it strange that only now they invested in a high end cards like the 1080 ti.
Why are you so worried about it? It's not like it's going to make him create content any faster.
