At least on kickstarter you have the option to not fund something if you know you can't get your money back.You have too little information: on kickstarter, more than 50% of projects end in nothing - an even better platform for scammers than Patreon (I don't like him either, but I have to remain objective).
Still patreon is a platform that will reward someone for not working or at the very least, work very slowly.
