There's two "majors" in the post I quoted. I was referring to "majority of the people", you are thinking about "major part of the experience", so I think we're talking different things here.
As for sound effects (back to the OP, I won't play these games on phones anyway, much less in public): a game is a different medium than a video and differently created. It is not easy to make/find a sound that is not only a 3 second loop (about as much fun as a 3 second loop of music in an elevator), yet gels with the scene shown on screen. And while I will agree that there are some exceptions which actually enhance the experience, most feel just off to me.
